Yeah not that bad interview. It confirms the direction they are going another time, nothing new really. Funny that people still get so upset about it, and feel the need to spit some hatred. Man, it doesn’t even make me tired anymore…

i thought the stuff about James and Darcy was interesting and the getting sick of James bit. we all kind of know that, but its interesting hearing it from Billy.

and i thought this was interesting

So doing a 10-minute song, nobody will listen to it. We have to come up with singles like “1979,” and come up with songs that sound good on the radio. We have to write those kinds of songs. [/quote:274e3sxh]

does this mean they will give up the experimental 10 minute stuff? i guess it just seems like uncharacteristic compromising to me. it just makes me wonder if he was being facetious or if he is seriously just going the radio friendly direction, because i guess i think of the pumpkins as being anti- that. i don’t know. it just kind of stood out to me.

      Yeah, i agree…

There are so many stupid comments… i think that many people loses their minds because on the internet we can say whatever we want without showing our identity. So people like to post even when they don’t take time to think about what they are about to comment…

I just don’t want them to stop. As long as i’m feeling it, i’ll support and respect the band.

none of that blue. just means he concedes having to write the single.

just like EVERY other band ever.

the album is gone? what the hell is he talking about? that is so \"things aren’t going my way, i’ll just bitch\". other band’s are releasing full length albums all the time, that are good throughout (white stripes, queens of the stone age, etc.) just because corgan can’t do it doesn’t mean that time is \"long gone\" or whatever.

what a stupid thing to say. wow, that really makes me mad.

i remember when he didn’t give a fuck, and never felt the need to justify the music. he needs to avoid interviews and the outside world for awhile. maybe move out of california. maybe get a job at walmart. something to connect back to his roots. this declaration is unnacceptable.

      haha- Walmart

i do wish he would stop giving a fuck about the press and the assholes at his gigs too. i miss the old super confident Billy who just said fuck you all and went about his business- no need for justification. i think that was what was bothering me about the bit i quoted. it just seemed defeatist and bitter.

i still love the band though and i hope he can find his center again.

Looking on the bright side, let’s not forget to look at those Corganite eyes when he speaks: A very clever man who may be dangling carrots and teasing. Never assume a Billy Orange to be just that… Could be a Lemon painted Orange. :)

We shall see what the crack is when we see what the crack is, talk is talk.

and then there is his blog…

      http://smashingpumpkins.com/pages/blog/ … go-tribune

and here are the final words to his blog

Our message has been consistent: don’t ask us to do or be anything that will once again lead to the death of the band. The band’s survival comes first. We can debate aesthetics and marketing platforms later. If you want us to fall away, fade away like some dust and relics it aint gonna happen. We are here to stay. We deserve to be here, and are proud of what we have gotten right thru the years. And we are truly grateful to those fans that trust us like family. The kind of extended family where you can make a mistake, say something not quite the right way, and still be welcomed home. There will never be anything wrong with flying too close to the sun.

      God bless everybody here, BC

the last statement sums his thoughts up nicely about making mistakes

and gives credence to the fans sometimes misjudging the band. we make mistakes too. but like a family (even disfuntional ones) always know where home is.

yeah, the hate club should start their own site-I mean I know there already is one, but good pumpkin fans still visit that site..
It’s just ridiculous to waste time on bashing Billy and SP..isn’t there something more constructive they could be doing? Like learning to listen to the new music more than twice

My head hurts from reading all the comments on the review, sp.com, and Billy’s blog on livejournal.

People are overly agressive with expressing their opinion. They either hate it, or love Billy. I wish people could juts be rational and flow with it…. but I guess if you are passionate about something as much as we all are, than when you are disappointed it’s to a higher degree.

I’m just happy that Billy is out there making music again. Like I said, several of my favorite bands have taken a downward spiral. But I just take a step back and stick in their old albums that I love.

As some of you know I’m a longtime fan of No Doubt, so I’m super stoked that after 7 years they are about to record another album. It will probably be more pop than ska, but I’m just so happy that they are back together!
