    you kiddin’? :(

just correct the track length and correct/complete the \"extra info\". don’t worry about the rest.

it doesn’t really matter. i just think it’s a shame to have the functionality to link from a song to different releases, but not using it properly.
and i’m posting longer and longer posts because i want to be sure i make myself clear. i hope i did. that is all. i’m not going to be disappointed if this isn’t changed. it was just a remark, and clearly nobody really cares, so why bother.

in reply to: Correction: Perfect 12\" US track lengths #42894

well, i don’t really care if you want to use the name as listed on the artwork. i prefer one approach, but the only difference between the two approaches is better linking between different releases. it’s not incorrect, but you do lose a bit of information.
ideally, the database would be set up in a way that one track entry can have different titles, but i assume that’s not the case right now, so we’ll have to manage.
i’m not saying there should be a fixed rule. entries like that judas o acetate (use one track title, mention alternate title in extra info) can happily exist next to entries like the untitled acetates (list title as listed on release). not very consequent, but no harm done.

and it shouldn’t be such a problem to use only one name for the same song, i think: on both releases, it’s the same track (perfect electro breakbeat dub/perfect electro breakbeat mix instr.), with the same track length (6:09). i don’t see what needs to be solved there.
you can either correct the track length on \"mix instr.\" to 6:09, or you can get rid of that entry in the database and replace track 4 on the cd-r with the \"dub\" entry, which already has the correct track length. (either way, it would be nice if the incorrectly listed track length on the vinyl label was mentioned in the extra info of the vinyl promo.)

regarding those untitled acetates though, no matter what name the tracks are given here on spfreaks.com (same as on the single release, or the names used on the acetate’s sleeve), it shouldn’t say that the mixes are unique if they aren’t.
i checked it, and they’re identical to the single release. if you want to double check this, please do. i can also upload flac rips, if needed.

the discussion in another thread made me revisit this one. i see that the incorrect information regarding the uniqueness of the mix/intro of the b-sides is still up.

in reply to: Correction: Perfect 12\" US track lengths #42887

Also, shouldn’t the listing on spfreaks be the same as the listing on the label?[/quote:23dlnkca]
i don’t know what the rules are.

i think it’s a shame you lose the information that they’re all the same song.
if you click on the song, you’ll only find the releases where the track is listed under the same name, and not the other releases with the exact same song, but listed under a different title. (this happens a lot, especially with early promos.)
you can always choose one title to be the spfreaks default listed title, and then mention that the artwork lists a different title in the item’s "extra information".
example of a release where this is done: http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=2439

in relation to this issue, i have checked two more items with different titles, but the same songs:
    http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1797
    http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … S&item=794
if you click the b-sides, you only find these two releases, but these tracks are also available on all the other 3-track untitled singles.
(on top of that, "try, try, try alt. version" also appears on machina II.)

anyway, that’s just my view on this.

maybe the high bidder at this moment (£3,500) only placed a bid to be part of history, feeling quite safe with 9 days of bidding left, and with no intention of ever paying this much for the shirt.
how would he or she feel if nobody else topped that bid?

edit: dunno. looks like they’re serious. it’s a bidder with zero feedback, and five bids on this auction. typical ebay noob behaviour. good for the auction, of course.

in reply to: Correction: Perfect 12\" US track lengths #42885

Also, to be consequent, I think the name of track 4 on that acetate cd should be Electro Breakbeat Dub instead of its earlier title Breakbeat Mix Instr.
    It is the same track.

ADAT is full hard disk multichannel recording… they might have transferred some to CD(R), but i guess not to tape… it needs mixing too as it’s the clean SBD multichannel pre-fader mix.[/quote:w8gw0z2m]
you’re probably right. but wikipedia says there is such a thing as ADAT tapes.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADAT

Alesis Digital Audio Tape or ADAT is a tape format used for simultaneously recording eight tracks of digital audio at once, onto Super VHS magnetic tape – a format similar to that used by consumer VCRs.[/quote:w8gw0z2m]

Just finished sorting thru over 700 cassette tapes in the SP/BC archives. Whoa. Found lots of interesting stuff I didn’t know we had.[/quote:37o2wqhu]
he does say \"cassette tapes\". i’d also think he means the \"normal\" cassettes. but it could mean both, in my opinion.

in reply to: Billy found some old cassettes #42875

yeah, but don’t you think it’s possible that billy referred to these ADATs as \"cassettes\" too? they’re also cassettes.
or do you think they checked 700 cassette tapes, like the ones you and i used to play in the 80s (and way into the 90s)? on top of the massive amount of DATs, ADATs and whatnot? and if so, why only check the compact cassettes to check what’s in the vault, and not the DATs, ADATs and other formats?

in reply to: Billy found some old cassettes #42872

arthur, i am thinking the same way regarding the use of compact cassettes and dats.
the professionally recorded shows are all on dat. at least, that’s what i’ve been told.

but i was just assuming that with \"cassettes\" billy meant both.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Audio_Tape

in reply to: Billy found some old cassettes #42870

i’m surprised they only sorted through 700 tapes.
i thought they started recording every show professionally since ’94/’95, so i was expecting the number of tapes, including demos etc., to be a bit higher.
but maybe i didn’t estimate the number of smashing pumpkins shows from ’95 until 2000 correctly, and 700 is indeed the number of tapes containing all the live recordings (including plenty of pre-mcis shows) plus whatever else is in the archives.

in reply to: Billy found some old cassettes #42868

they’ve been working on this for years. and in the beginning we were getting updates on it. this is no news.

as for the releases: i think we’ll need some more patience. i have programmed my patience on \"years\" instead of \"months\".

in reply to: Something rare for auction next week #42847

    i’m going to bid.
just to be part of history.
    $30 or so.

in reply to: What is the latest Pumpkins related item you bought? #7976

    interesting!

in reply to: Something rare for auction next week #42840

i don’t think i’d win either. i can just imagine the amount of money it would go for, and there is no way i want to pay that much. even if it \"only\" goes for $10k, i could never justify paying that much, if i think what else could be done with that money.

do you think you’d make a chance if machina II was auctioned on ebay?

in reply to: Something rare for auction next week #42837

omg omg omg what will it be?
    machina II?

in reply to: What is the latest Pumpkins related item you bought? #7970

the seller was asking too much for shipping, so he or she missed out on a nice bid.
    not my problem.

    very interesting.
    thanks for that.

in reply to: BWBW Rare Cassette #42816

do you think it’s real? it looks like it could be, but i have some doubts.

why does do they mention \"cd\" on a cassette, and not just once? i find that a bit weird.
do you think there are cassettes for the other cds from the box set?
why can’t i see any mention of \"promotional release\" or \"not for sale\"? or do you think it does, but that it isn’t visible in the picture?
