Aggressive behavior and flaming in the forums is encouraged.
Trashing of other peoples topics is encouraged.
Systematic foul language (especially on titles) is also encouraged.
Please use capitals. Posting in capitals is the internet equivalent of shouting/screaming and is considered impolite and rude.

Please post nude images. Keep this place unsafe for work.
No requests for invites to SPfreaks or other to-nice-to-be-true forums however.

When in doubt, do ASK! We are unfriendly and most of the times unwilling to answer any valid questions.

if its not your kind of place, fine. dont go there.

i like it there and even though theres a lot of crap, i have met a lot of nice people there, a couple of them also in real life. its also a very good source for a lot of sp knowledge and info.

the only thing i dont really get is the non-stop complaining about netphoria, both on netphoria itself as on other messageboards. every other sp board i have read does this. tell me why.

what i also see very often is people coming from another messageboard to netphoria, fully brainwashed, and starting to post on netphoria with the completely wrong attitude. they have heard all kinds of things about the place, and their posts are self-fullfilling prophecies. after two days, they return to their original board and say \"yeah, guys, you were right, they are really unfriendly over there\".

i dont know. i have never had a problem with netphoria. just like any other board, i first hung around for a while, reading what was going on. and by the time i started posting, nobody felt the need to start yelling at me.

Topic: The Girls on the Cover of Siamese Dream (2007-07-13)

      \"Hey everybody.

So, this may sound. . .well. . .odd, but I am a journalist, working on a story about \"Siamese Dream,\" and have been trying, to no avail, to track down the little girls pictured on the album cover, so that I can interview them.

Alas, no one seems to know who they were, or what their names are. There have been rumors that they were actually D’Arcy’s sisters, but I don’t believe that’s true.

I know I’m new to this forum, but any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks,
      Chris\"

Interesting, friendly question. Let’s read on. Huh? What do I read now? Some replies on page 1:

      \"he’s going to rape them\"

      \"pedophila…\"

\"Maybe Siamese Dream would have tanked without them. Maybe Zeitgeist would have been better with them. Either way, who gives a fuck…they are over 18 now, I want to see those tits!\"

\"No, the guy just is one sick fuck. he probabaly had the olson twin countdown on his computer, now he is moving on to other little girls he can masturbate to ….\"

\"by the way, someone needs to post the \"you’re gonna get raped\" pic.\"

\"Those poor kids are obviously going to end up pretty well if they’re just getting raped, judging by the original post\"

Right. I’m tired already. Because these primitive reactions (the only sweet words I could find for this) are allowed on Netphoria, this forum sux big time in my opinion. I would immediately delete these posts, delete the friendly members with it, ban their ip addresses and their childrens’ and grandchildrens’ ip addresses also, for life and beyond. I wouldn’t be too proud to be member there, whatever info can be found between this crap. I did go there a few times and posted around 15 times, 2 of them got deleted without any explanation from the webmasters beforehand. It took me about 3 emails to find out why my posts were deleted, and the reason was I linked back to SPfreaks.com. Yeah right! Anyway, not my kind of place, not my kind of people, not my kind of attitude…

But I wish everybody going there a happy time of course! It’s a free world after all!

I think netphoria is a disgusting forum, made even worse by the fact that they want to soak you for money to use it. If you want a bigger forum site that is friendlier use thepumpkins.net. I think their moderators actually do their jobs.

I second that blueczarina. Things I was not allowed to post at Netphoria were happily accepted there. ThePumpkins.net is very slow technical wise and it doesn’t contain much info like Netphoria does, but at least it’s (kinda) non-commercial, funny and friendly. Also Blamo ( http://www.blamonet.com/vb/ ) might be an option, when you are looking for an even bigger and way more active forum. I don’t know much about their friendly-ness however as I never go there. Maybe someone here can tell his/her experiences at Blamo?

I don’t post on blamo.net, but I checked it out. There are vulgar threads on the first page. I guess they’re a bunch of Pumpkin fans, who can’t resist sharing their favorite porn sites, etc., with everyone too. I only post to this site, thepumpkins.net, and sometimes SP.com even though there isn’t much to the user section there. At least at SP freaks no one is sworn out or subjected to vulgar filth. It may be a small site, but people are friendly and practically moderate themselves. There is the odd disagreement, but thats mild compared to the crap you get on some forums. I’ll take small, over crass any day.

    • #9417

Indeed blueczarina, and we won’t allow it either. Our forum webmaster already deleted 1 or 2 members in our very short existence, and with my full approval. You know, I really don’t mind when people want to talk about porn, their favourite sexual positions with their boy- or girlfriend, or whatever. But the keyword here is: respect. This is a public place like a library, trainstation or stadium, and people should behave like they are in such place.

Besides, this place is mainly about Smashing Pumpkins. And any subject related to this band can be discussed. Can be in an ironical way, in a funny way, in a respectful disagreement with some hard words, but no bashing, trashing and vulgar debating. We are talking about people here (band and forum members like-wise) and I think we should treat each other like that.

When I went to blamonet I saw a few vulgar threads. There seems to be a few sections devoted to crap, ie. \"the man board\" part (take a look at the threads). I just think its inappropriate, but I suppose I would (not a dude). Thats more of a comment about the site overall though, not just the Pumpkin part. I don’t use the site. Its certainly not as bad as Netphoria (that would be hard to beat). Like Arthur said though, forums are public places and I just don’t like seeing any profuse swearing or vulgarity. If its a forum site that is open to a general audience of any age or gender, I just like seeing posters with a greater degree of respect. This might be more of a critique of forum users in general, but I just like people who keep others in mind before they post something potentially offensive. :|

    • #9422

ah, the man board. i almost never go there. it’s a temporary board and i always forget it exists.

i think it’s not a bad idea to have a separate subforum like the man board or the chick board. it keeps the \"vulgar\" stuff out of the general board. if you were a member there, you would applaud it. also, if you don’t like the thread title, don’t read the thread. once again, clear thread titles should be applauded. otherwise you end up in threads you didn’t really feel like ending up in.

in my opinion, they’re very decent on blamonet. i’ve seen pictures of nude women (not even porn, just nudity) being removed by the moderators. and that was on the man board.

Yeah BlamoNet is really not bad, I just browsed around a bit and liked it. Girls also post in the man board by the way, and its pretty decent and respectful what they write. What I found hilarious is that Elliott Smith is way more popular post-wise. Was BlamoNet always a Pumpkins board, or did it evolve from something else?

Yes and no. Yes, to each their own, of course, I agree. But I think it makes sense to discuss the Pumpkins places that matter, and are worthwhile to visit often. What you like there and what you don’t like there. And stating what is wrong in the policy of, for example, Netphoria makes sense too I guess. I mean, that Siamese Dream journalist guy was flamed over there, and will be remembered by many people as "Chris, The Cover Girl Raper" or something. I dare myself (and you, if you’re with me) to speak out against such tendencies, instead of slowly picking up that primitive atmosphere, and go down the drain with them. i actually appreciate the rude/rough side of boards like netphoria and also blamonet to a certain point. i think on blamonet, for example, i have been in fights with about half of the people i am now friends with. it’s fun to poke and challenge people. see how far they’ll let you come, how they come back at you. that’s how you can really get to know them. of course, it hurts a little, but it’s worth it. it’s a pity this kind of behaviour is not allowed here.

I do agree that the more egregious crap on some message boards like Netphoria should be discussed. Its wrong to ignore, especially since we all poke around the Pumpkin sites. Seriously, it doesn’t need a fight with me to know Pipoka, bullet, Superlord, toad32r, Dazey, manilla, tree_spirit, and you Cool As Ice Cream, and many others are my online Pumpkins friends. I just don’t get it why people walk around the bush like that. :P

And Superlord, imagine you would stand at a busy busstation and say to a pretty girl asking the time to you "won’t help you, show me your tits now! and at night you probably masturbate with a dildo, right?". Would you do that? Black humour? Naahhh… I would like to call it insulting and uncivilized behaviour…

Open forums like ours, BlamoNet and Netphoria, with around 10 times more guest users that can read anything published, are very public places. I know very well it’s pretty cool sometimes to search for the boundaries and step over it, or to tease people a bit longer to have them say things you want to hear. Even in public places. Just to hear their real opinions, or to protest against injustice for example. I was caught four times by the police for this kinda aggressive and shocking type of behaviour in public, so really, I do know what I’m talking about. But this was never because I insulted people, or suggested things about them in a certain context that made absolutely no sense. But sometimes people just can’t handle the truth, or don’t want to hear about another opinion… Well, tell you later. Old stories.

Anyway, I’m strongly against irrelevant insulting behaviour when I ask something nicely, being new on a public forum.

So on this forum… No. No chance.

Yeah i see where your coming from, but the internet is a very different place to real life, and different sites have different expectations to others. SP.com, for example, is the official site that’s used by BC and crew. The most people are gonna access it, so the moderators have to make it suitable for most people in the SP fan age group. This site is somewhat different, built on a very niche sort of premise, as well as humbleness and maturity – leading to a forum which could be considered open, down to earth, honest and ‘mature’. Netphoria built a reputation for itself, eventually appealing to a certain type of people. So yeah… different sites have different expectations and stuff.

Hell, another forum i frequent for the danish band ‘Mew’ . They tore into me because i said i liked MCR and for criticizing others use of ’emo’. But i persevered. That site is an example of a site built on mutual respect. After the whole ’emo incident i got a couple of PMs saying that nobody there takes themselves too seriously, and don’t worry, they’re like that to everybody.

In conclusion – different sites appeal to different people and have built up a mentality sort of unique to the board.

Also, NEVER take what someone said on the internet seriously if it sounds like a personal attack. You can’t tell what the ‘inflexion’ in their ‘voice’ at the time was – so you can’t tell if they’re joking or not. Unless they continue it ridiculously, and make it really obvious.

why do i even care about this so much?

You can go here also. http://www.fucknetphoria.org/

Well, maybe not. The place is kinda dead…

I remember they kicked of pretty well just a few days before us (July 2007), in no time they had twice as much members as SPfreaks, but then it went quiet after a few months… Please tell me why…[/quote:1suqa65k]
because the idea of having a site called fucknetphoria is even more immature than netphoria itself?

anyway, i read the first page of the thread you quoted and all i see is three people being unfriendly or simply ridiculous. no biggie. you could count the posts and calculate the average, but if you count the number of posters, you get a completely different image. it’s just that trolls happen to post more…

Yeah maybe. Also the "tone" is probably not right. And the forum is maybe too big for the few members. Just a thought.

Also funny to see on any forum: 90% of the members never post, or only once or twice. Why would that be?

    • #9459

because they feel they have nothing to say?
