manillascissorSpectatorHello everyone!

Here are the requirements:
Select favorite non-single track
Select appropriate B-side(s)
Select format (CD/vinyl)
Create Artwork (front cover at minimum, if vinyl, color if other than black)
Share reasons for making this song a single, and explain the B-sides.Few rules:
Track must be SMASHING PUMPKINS. No Zwan. No solo. No Marked. Etc….
Track must be studio recording (no live submissions)
B-sides cannot be singles, nor can they be B-sides from another single
If vinyl entry, must state amount of pressings and any color variations therein
More than one entry is acceptable (up to 5)
Multiple entries for one song are acceptable as long as from different users (only 1 song per person)
Entries due by 15/01/2008
Judging will be held immediately following the close of the contest. Arthur, the US webmaster, Bram, and our Asian moderator will all submit individual ratings for each submission. Also, by default, the SPFreaks team is exempt from any winnings, but I would encourage participation!
The current prize available is the French The End is the Beginning is the End CD single, complete with tattoos!! Other singles may be added at a later date. More information on this rare release can be found here:

ArthurSpectatorAs I cannot compete anyway, I’m gonna break every rule
Marquis In Spades as a single, because it’s 1 of their most brutal songs. I love it.
B-sides: I Fall & Alabaster (live)To give it that old Pumpkins look, this is the artwork of my choice. Red vinyl, limited edition of 1,000.

ArthurSpectatorMy next upload is the CD single for Pug, which should have been a single anyway to my humble opinion. It fits the rules of the contest also, correct me if I’m wrong. As b-sides I choose Eye and My Mistake, 2 beautiful songs that fit this single pretty well. Standard release US and EU, no extraordinary things. Just a good single.

ChrysanthemeSpectatorHello everybody. This will be kind of a unique post, I registered to this very forum to submit my contribution to this contest. By the way sorry for my terrible English, I’m French.
My choice: Bugg Superstar.
Alone. Because it was the only Smashing Pumpkins song that deserved to be an incredible single and wasn’t released the way it should have been.
This is my artwork:

ArthurSpectatortoad32r, you seem to bring in quite some quality here!
However, my next contribution is going to blow you all away. Period.
Slunk on 7\" vinyl. Homemade by Billy Corgan, for his friend and music partner Jimmy Chamberlin. Only 1 copy…
Consider this Billy’s invention of the b-side single with a c-side. -
2007.12.28 at 9:15 pm #5316
manillascissorKeymasterI own that! JC and I are TIGHT! He said he didn’t want to be reminded of his singing days anymore and sold it to me some time ago. How’d you get that picture?

Do you realize this thingy is worth almost as much as the real Machina II vinyl?
I only know it from this pic, to be honest. I have a friend that is kinda close to Billy, and Billy send him a copy of the artwork long time ago. What Billy told him was that he gave Jimmy this single together with the Mashed Potatoes set, as he wanted to give him a somewhat extra special Xmas feeling…
-
2007.12.29 at 4:55 pm #5318
manillascissorKeymasterOk Ok….
I actually had to sell it back to Jimmy when he learned how rare it was. At first he thought it was cheaply made and mass produced. He said Billy was asking him about it, and didn’t want to piss him off.

Damn me and my lack of knowledge regarding SP’s discography!
I didn’t know that…
Ok, you guys are gonna have to use your imagination a bit here, but where-ever it says Try, Try, Try (Version 1) in my previous entry, can you kinda imagine it changed to "Speed Kills (But Beauty Lives Forever)", unless that was already a b-side (which i get the feeling it is), then change it to "Go". Actually, just change it to "Go"

I agree about Try, Try, Try (Alternate version), but not about Set The Ray To Jerry. Technically Set The Ray To Jerry never was on a CD single release. It was on a release called 1979 (which was a single also), but with 6 songs in total on this specific 1979 it’s called an EP. Singles just have 2 or 3 songs at the most. Just my humble opinion… -

martygoeswheeSpectatorHello!!!
I’m new here. I saw this contest and thought it would be fun to create something.
Single: Bury Me
B-Side: Snail
CD FormatI decided to choose \"Bury Me\" for my single because I believe it is just a great song. It is an amazing track with such intensity. The outro is one of the best in my opinion. For the B-side, I chose \"Snail\" because it contrasts \"Bury Me\" in that it is calmer. However, at times, \"Snail\" also has the same intensity as \"Bury Me\". I also love \"Gish\", so that is another reason why I picked them.

FezSpectatorSingle: By Starlight
B-side: By Starlight (live at GM Place, Vancouver, August 1st, 1997)The reason I chose By Starlight is not really sophisticated; this is beautiful, peaceful song with lyrics wchich tear me apart.
For B-side i chose the best live By starlight performance EVER. Must be on this single ! -

SPfreaksSpectatorA big thank you to all who participated. We have a small community here, but it’s nice to see so many people participating.

SPfreaksSpectatorThe results of 2 judges are in, 2 more to follow. Sorry for the delay, guys.
Firstly, the entries of manillascissor, Arthur and Cool As Ice Cream are not taken into consideration. They are webmasters of SPfreaks and are not allowed to compete in this contest. However, a big THANK YOU to them for their artful contributions!
Secondly, Superlord – Real Love and Fez – By Starlight are disqualified as Real Love contains a b-side and By Starlight contains a live track. This is not allowed, as stated in the contest rules. All other entries have been judged according the following sections:
-Artwork (how is the overall quality of the artwork for the single)
-Song selection (how do the songs of the single fit together)
-Explanation (how detailed and well-thought is the explanation given)
-Enjoyment (what is the overall enjoyment of the single)In each of these 4 sections only 3 entries should be judged in the following way.
-1 point to 1 entry for \"Honorable Mention\"
-2 points to another entry as \"Runner Up\"
-3 points to a third entry for \"Best!\"The entry with most points in the end wins. This leads to the following non-final (!) schedule at the moment.
00 points – Superlordspamulon (Cupid De Locke)
09 points – Superlordspamulon (Soma)
00 points – Cool As Ice Cream (Bleed)
00 points – Cool As Ice Cream (Moleasskiss)

07 points – Superlordspamulon (For Martha)
04 points – Superlordspamulon (Glass And The Ghost Children)

1. toad32r (Geek U.S.A.)
2. Superlordspamulon (Soma)
3. martygoeswhee (Bury Me) / Superlordspamulon (For Martha)When the other 2 judges have send in their points, we will give you a new schedule and order, and eventually announce the winner. Also, this thread has been unlocked for your convenience. You can leave your comments again!
Again, sorry for the delay. There was some worldwide discussion between the American, Asian and European judges about how to give proper points…

SPfreaksSpectatorSuperlordspamulon is right Fez, you would definately have scored points with your entry. Rules are rules however. More luck next time Fez, make sure you read the instructions properly!
I’m ashamed to announce that because of the timezones 1 of the judges will not be in time with the points. However, I’m pretty sure they will be in during Saturday the 19th. Sorry for the inconvenience!
However, don’t you all just LOVE the suspense?

20 points – martygoeswhee (Bury Me)
13 points – Superlordspamulon (For Martha)
05 points – Superlordspamulon (Glass And The Ghost Children)
00 points – Fez (By Starlight)As can be seen by these results, the following order can be made.
1. martygoeswhee (Bury Me) with 20 points
2. Pipoka (Set The Ray To Jerry) / Superlordspamulon (Soma), both with 18 points
3. Superlordspamulon (For Martha) with 13 pointsAfter all it was a close call between Bury Me, Set The Ray To Jerry and Soma, but martygoeswhee stood strong on 1 and was not prepared to move, Pipoka almost caused a contest revolution and Superlordspamulon… came back with For Martha, pushing toad32r with his beautiful Geek U.S.A. just out of the top 3. Exciting finish this is! Wow!
Let me summarize some of the judges’ remarks in my own words.
-martygoeswhee manages to create some good artwork together with a pretty nice song combination. This single should have been done in the old days!
-The artwork of Pipoka – Set the ray is maybe not the best. But the single has an extremely daring combination of tracks from all eras. That should be rewarded.
-The artwork of Soma reminds me of Rocket, but you can think of worse inspirations I guess. He explains his songs pretty detailed, Superlordspamulon could have been Billy’s Agent at the record company.martygoeswhee is the winner of the contest after all, with his entry called Bury Me. Congratulations martygoeswhee! We will PM you soon to ask for some details. All other people in this contest, THANK YOU and it was fun to look at all that artwork! For now, see you next time!
