Really? For a 2 song promo tape? Whichever one of you put in that max bid, you are RETARDED.
If you want to piss away $300 US again, let me know, I’ll give you a few ideas.

I didn’t buy it, but I know someone here did. I find it sad that the price of this tape went for what some of the demo tapes have gone for in the past.

But why put in such a high bid, so you wouldn’t have to wait at the end of the auction to see what happened? It is kinda like one of those situations where you threw up a crazy bid, thinking it’d never get that high and someone called your bluff. But I guess if you put in a bid of $285, you obviously felt the tape was worth that much.
But for the final price, hey, look at it this way….$135 per song. STEAL!!

yes and no. i put in a high bid because if someone did eclipse it, they’d have to pony up big for it. meaning, pay more than what i think it’s worth. it’s the only way i can justify someone else having it.
realistically, the tape should be valued around $150-$200, so i got screwed a little. but i make enough money to afford these little gems, so i deal.
plus, routinely, i find rarities for pennies on the dollar:
2X teitbite promo 7"s: one for $13, one for $8
1979 mixes French promo: $9
Daughter relfex magazine w/ 7" flexi: $15It all evens out in the end. And I’m proud to own it.

I’ve been watching a few items on eBay lately for the hell of it.
Seems that on any item that might snag a few Bucks, there’s often a zero feedback bidder gently notching the price up.

I’m not saying it’s overpriced or overpayed. If this is genuine-
It’s a good deal I guess-

Good deal, but still-
Expensive-For this amount of cash-
You’d secured yourself on early demo tape I guess

I can agree its a lot of money, but I remember when the one sold for $700, and even recently one sold for $103.50. Manilla sold his on this message board for $200-300. All of which were the second disc. I tend to wonder what happened to the first disc and how much harder it would be to find just one to complete the set. I figure if you can get one of the disc for under $100, I would feel good about it. The only problem is if you get the second disc then you got 3 other people that I know of that is searching for the first disc….. But anyways somebody paid $600 for this and I would much rather have the Promo CDR’s.

Maybe, but I don’t think so, in this case. I did not only ask for the pic of the cd, I also send the pic of that "homemade" sleeve to 1 of my very trustworthy Asian sources. This is what I was told about it. -
2009.04.09 at 12:34 pm #34132
EAZYE121SpectatorAuthur are you the new owner of the \"Homemade\" CD? By the bidding pattern, I would say it’s a positive.

(That buyer will be, ahem… me, ahem… )[/quote:2vm73gxa]
And I was send the same pic of the cd too, just to clarify that at least it was a genuine Reprise promo. And it turned out to be one, although the pic is very blurry… But it looked OK to me. Then I put a bid on it, the first and my only bid on this auction with a rather high maximum amount to protect it, Somebody else however, showed some pricey interest later on during the auction… I wonder who! Would it be Pit Boss himself maybe? Not my lucky day maybe, but in Euro it’s not that expensive anyway, thanks to the rather good conversion rate these days. So I’m still very happy with it! I won’t start collecting all of them "Asian shop- or homemades" of course, but just to have this colorful one in my collection for reference is kinda cool I think. Whatever you guys (mayo! blue!) might say.

Bye bye "homemade Japanese promo". I just got a full refund from the seller, as he said it was not genuine enough to his standards. And he might be right, after all. Or maybe the other bidder is sniping it behind my back!Anyway, he will look for compensation, and he already came with a few options, which I turned down. 1 of them might be the Asian pressing of If All Goes Wrong, but I don’t think so. Asked about it anyway. At least this was a nice little collecting adventure again.

It is $1025 now, but the problem I have with an auction like this is all the bidders with 0 feedback and/or newly created ebay users. I hate it when something rare pops up, and all these deadbeat losers crawl out of the woodwork to bid on stuff they have no intention of paying for. The seller could maintain credibility by deleting all bids from those with zero feedback. That is how the price got driven up in the first place, was a bidding war between someone with 600+ feedback and someone with 0. Nice.
-
2009.04.26 at 4:13 pm #34155
blueczarinaSpectatoryeah, the person should have made a rule about the number of feedbacks a bidder has to have. otherwise the price will just be driven up by idiots and the seller won’t get paid.

ArthurSpectatorI think it’s a bullshit auction. Look at this bidding pattern, and especially when that person with 1 feedback only retracted his last bid. I’m quite sure it’s a set up, to make that 3***d person pay his max bid. When this bidding war had not happened, the price would have been US$ 2,200. Which is around the price that I think is fair, somehow.

blueczarinaSpectatorthat’s probably true, because h***i probably wasn’t going to pay and they wanted to make the other person cough up the $10,000. this seller should have never let the 0 feedback idiots bid in the first place though and who knows? they might still not get paid. there aren’t too many bids on this item from any established ebayers.

amnesiaSpectatorI think it’s a bullshit auction.

ArthurSpectatorWhy doesn’t this surprise me? It was overpriced big times, so probably the buyer chickened out, or the buyer puts it back on eBay immediately. Or this is another, bootlegged, copy maybe?
I presume it’s the same, genuine one, so my guess is, again: US$ 2,000 – 2,500.

ArthurSpectatorProbo one the most expensive auctions ive seen, and the stuff his trying to sell. is not even rare.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MASSIVE-SMASHING- … 286.c0.m14
Worst of all with this auction is "Reserve not met" lmao
I could understand if he added some badass vinyls or promo cds[/quote:3bhq54z4]
But it includes the cassette "Drown (Extremely Rare Live Album Released To Coincide With The 1993 European Tour. Mint Condition)"? Must be a bootie cassette then, I guess… It’s not on SPfreaks.com anyway. -

$150 for the siamee singles set?
overpriced? yes. you can probably find one for like $40 if you’re patient. that auction shot up to $150 suspiciously quickly.
$150 for the "massive collection" probably a little high. but not a bad pickup. the cassette is just the "drown" bootleg. [url:18jbhgss]http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?page=COLLINDEX&cat=15[/url:18jbhgss]

-

Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorhahaha. i sent a sealed tape like that out for free to a guy in australia once, just because i had a spare one anyway. these heavy metal machine promo tapes are virtually worthless.
-
2009.10.14 at 7:45 am #34290
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatoroh, and to be fair (my memory is slow today), i received a couple of copies of this tape for free too. someone once said they got a big box full of these tapes at home and i asked if he could miss one, and he sent me a couple. i believe i only had to pay for shipping.
-
2009.10.14 at 8:44 am #34291
amnesiaSpectatorYeah, they are pretty much worthless, i got a couple of those cassettes as well, bought one for 5 $ a year back or so, and got a copy for free from a very good freind.
Made me laugh, when you wrote about that box full of those tapes And this seller sells it for a fortune, idiot seller.

You mean the 2 prices of 70+ bucks? Or did you see them even go higher maybe? -
2010.04.20 at 5:23 am #34295
DanniSpectatorArthur:
Yeah, I’ve seen those. I mean, a year ago you could get one for around $30, now the price usually ends up with the double of that ammount.
-
2010.04.20 at 7:16 am #34296
ArthurSpectatorYeah well, it is a quality release, if I may say so… I’m not a real vinyl collector, and I got my copy for around 30 bucks also, but I can imagine that people pay a little more. 70+ sounds overpriced to me though.

DanniSpectatorSo, really, dusting this thread off with this one:
Just found TbK on Ginza (the biggest cd supplier in Sweden) not only do you have to order this item (as they don’t have it in stock), it costs 559 SEK which is appr. $71 (!)
Good luck selling these. I understand they don’t have it in stock as nobody would ever buy it.
-
2010.10.15 at 8:59 am #34301
marigoldSpectatorI’m wondering what is the most expensive SP cassette that anyone has seen?
I don’t think it could be more than this one:
The Death of a Dictionary is the debut album by alternative rock band Public Affection, who subsequently changed their name to \"Live\" and released seven more studio albums. It was released in 1989, while the band members were still in high school, via the band’s own label, Action Front Records. Just 2,000 copies of the album were made, all on cassette, and it is long out of print. The track \"Good Pain\" was eventually reworked for inclusion on the first Live EP, Four Songs, and their debut album Mental Jewelry. The album has a sound quite different to anything the band would later release as Live. Aside from \"Good Pain\", the remainder of the songs are still only officially available on this cassette, although the album is widely available on the internet via illegal download. Between 2005 and 2007 the average eBay selling price for the official cassette was $593.00.[/quote:1ap2yesb]
-
2010.10.15 at 9:03 am #34302
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorI disagree. I’m sure people would pay more for other cassettes that are possibly even harder to find.
I mean, this is Live. Not the biggest band in the world. And there are 2000 copies of this cassette.
-

This cassette alone, is worth triple that price. Easily! It contains the Smashing Pumpkins song I Fall in a recording of December 1987. I heard rumours that even Billy Corgan himself wants it back, badly. -

The start price should have been on 1% of that amount, and the seller, having his lucky day, could end up getting 5% of that amount. That’s what I paid for my copy also. So yeah, it is waaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced. -

DanniSpectatorAnyhow, I think that $8.00 for shipping is ridiculous.
-
2011.02.25 at 9:12 pm #34313
ArthurSpectatorYeah, I agree. That CD is super duper extremely rare, so any serious collector should pay that amount, what the seller is asking as a Buy It Now price, without any second thoughts. 8 dollar for shipment is slightly overcharged though. Maybe he is asking a few dollars extra for that long text he wrote on eBay, to promote the Smashing Pumpkins… On the other hand, I might have seen that text before…
Anyway, grab it! FAST!

manillascissorKeymasternot sure if it’s overpriced or not, but a siva CD just sold on eBay for $334.
there is the i am one too, it’s already around $285 or so.
the latter is overpriced, imo. i think i sold mine awhile ago for $75? lol

DanniSpectatori was bidding on that one. but $334….. no-hooooo ho ho.
-
2011.10.17 at 8:15 am #34327
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatoryeah, i was also interested in that siva cd. but it went for £212. a little bit above my treshold of pain. i think it’s a fair price though. i believe i’ve seen it go for $400 a couple of years ago.
-
2011.11.13 at 9:15 am #34328
buiopestoSpectatorplaced a bid on that siva as well- went over the hill for me as well
oh by the way, back to fairly priced items…does anything beat this one?http://www.ebay.it/itm/CD-SMASHING-PUMP … 336e3c6dba
for the record, the description reads \"one ultra mega ORIGINAL copy of machina II,on costantinopole records, not the promo downloaded from the internet\"
I Tried to tell my fellow italian there’s something wrong with his concept of \"original\"-also linked him straight to the dedicated spfreaks link-but he insists on saying it’s the real thing.
Was about to get quite mad bout that..mail him back…and back…..but after all…its sunday, its sunny here in southern italy and berlusconi’s gov’s over.. why screwin’up such a promising day? -

i hope he can’t convince anyone else. that would be a little tradegy. -
2011.11.13 at 11:17 pm #34333
buiopestoSpectatorexactly-as I said before,I mailed him and he really sounded as he sincerely believed owning some kind of treasure on his shelf. This proving the (not so common) idea that sincere ignorance makes more damage than intended fraud sometimes.
-
2013.10.10 at 12:47 pm #34334
ArthurSpectatorI knew TAFH vinyl was expensive to overpriced, but this seller triples that overpriced price again. I’m sure it’s no typo, and I’m also sure he will not easily sell at that price. Damn.
