      and

Do we need two entries for the same vinyl? Are these the same vinyl (is SPfreaks referring to the same thing twice?)

I think the first one is more correct. I think the second one is just missing the Hut promo bag/sleeve.

maybe one is supposed to be from the test pressing, and the other one is an ordinary white label promo?

yeah i thought that too. and that’s how they are listed as well.

but the only problem with that is none of the other 12\"s are listed that way. just seems inconsistent?

it’s always hard or even impossible to tell if a white label vinyl is a test pressing or not. your best guess is to say that it isn’t.

maybe this one copy is known to be a test pressing, because someone knows the back story?
or maybe it is indeed listed incorrectly at a time where both terms (test pressing and white label promo) got mixed up?

if this is known to be a test pressing, because the owner knows where it came from, then this listing is correct. and the only reason the other vinyl singles don’t have a test pressing entry on spfreaks.com, is because we haven’t found any test pressings of these other releases. (that’s not inconsistent, it’s just incomplete.)
but it stays likely that this is also a copy where we don’t know if it is a test pressing or not.

i guess i feel like if it is a test pressing, it wouldn’t have white label promo counterparts. at least with smashing pumpkins, known test pressings are test pressings and white label promos are white label promos. correct me if i’m wrong. i can’t think of an example where i’d say both exist for the same release.

Now these two are definite duplicates. I’d take care of this, but I have a bad connection for about a month.

First one seems legitimate. Second one is firstly labeled incorrectly as a 12\", it’s for Strange Fruit (not Peel Sessions), and it uses the exact same pictures.

why wouldn’t both exist for the same release? i think both must exist. well, at least the test pressing does. every vinyl will have a test pressing of a handful of copies (or less).

these white label promos were pressed hundreds at a time, to be used as a promo. there is no way they pressed all of those without doing a test pressing first. what if something was wrong with it? throw the hundreds of already pressed vinyls away?

i’m not a vinyl factory employee, so i don’t know how they actually do it, but i don’t see why they wouldn’t press the white label promos in the same run as the copies that are commercially released. the only difference is the label and the sleeve, but those are applied afterwards.

good job though. it’s always good to run some checks on the collection.
