Yeah looks genuine to me. However, the information on the auction is wrong, correct me if I’m wrong, you hardcore vinyl specialists!

\"SMASHING PUMPKINS Mellon Collie MINT 1.Pressing\" <= wrong title, it’s not the first pressing. Right?

\"this is the real deal: Cut in the UK at Townhouse from original masters using DMM technologie and pressed on heavyweight BLACK VINYL!

This comes from a friends archive where it sat on the shelve since 1996 when he got it from another friend working for the recordindustry. The amazing thing is: The white rectangle on the front cover’s lower right corner where the limited edition number should be is EMPTY! I inspected this closely and compared it to my numbered copy and the two of them are identical right down to the polylinered innersleeves, the stamped matrix numbers and the handsigned addition \"Townhouse DMM\". What do we learn from this? Seems that Hut produced a bit more than the official 20000 numbered copies and gave those unnumbered copies away for promotion. So here is your chance to win one of those! As I said: The only difference is the fact that there is NO individual number!\" <= I’m not so sure about this part also. Empty number box, so it’s a 1996 promo? We only know about the 1998 repress, which was unnumbered… And what is that Townhouse DMM thingy on both the numbered and unnumbered copy? Can our SPfreaks Vinyl Dept. come into action, and update us about this?

i saw that on ebay. looks fishy to me.

    • #18377

i thought i looked real, due to the illustrations that cool as ice cream put on another thread, correct me if i am wrong, but white box with no numbers is still ok, that means no booleging, no box is bootleg, so i think it is real, just the guy doesn’t have his info right.

The seller is just mistaken, probably unaware he’s selling the second pressing, which left the white box empty. So it’s genuine as hell, just up to the buyer: do you want the first pressing or the second?

As a collector, I STILL don’t own a second pressing because they just go for so much. They are actually rarer than the original pressing (I think).

Bram can compare the Townhouse DMM thing, as he has both vinyls, but I’m sure that will take some time as he’s busy these days.

      BRAM TO THREAD!

Bram actually can’t "hear" it. There is a satellite orbiting our earth that Arthur and Redwolf shot up about 5 years ago. When ever a webmaster wishes to contact another webmaster, any signal is instantly relayed up to the satellite, then a little zap hits the freak on the ground. Depending on where you place the zapper, it can be quite enjoyable.

      well did it work yet?

Yeah it’s been a while we used that feature, so the satellite is maybe a bit rusty. Oh, and it’s busy up there, so the signal is maybe getting lost between NASA and other satellites! But I’m sure Bram has his zapper on a proper freaky place.

Edit: just checked, batteries still working, blip blip.

    • #18387

you guys are so silly. do you have to buy your zapper or does it just appear when you become a webmaster?

sorry guys! i was away for the weekend. the satellite thingy didn’t work in paris.

as said before: white box is real, but it’s not a promo of the first pressing, but simply the second pressing.

i also believe that the second pressing is harder to find than the first (numbered) one.

and yeah, that townhouse dmm is part of the matrix code on both versions. nothing special about that.

i think the only difference in matrix code between the first and second pressing is on side C, where it says HUTTLP 30 C-2-1-1 instead of HUTTLP 30 C-1-1-1. side C is different on the second pressing.
