i first have to thank ben at splra. i sent the cassettes over to him to do the transfer. the word is they are all in flac. i haven’t downloaded them myself yet.

i think the theory here is this tape is the same as the sequence IV audio?
      [url:2bemt2mu]http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A50JKJUT[/url:2bemt2mu]

i have a 2nd version of this tape. [url:2bemt2mu]http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?page=COLLDETAILS&item=1096[/url:2bemt2mu] but with a shorter tracklist. i dont recall the exact tracklist, and ben has the tape right now.

he said this one actually had the Moon and TSP demo tapes on it
      [url:2bemt2mu]http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JH47O0S1[/url:2bemt2mu]

i also have a mellon collie cassette made in the UK at \"something something\" studios. i can’t remember the name of the production studio right now. and don’t think the audio is anything special. i think it was just a studio promo cassette. he still has to transfer that one. i’ll post it when the link arrives.

Awesome material, thanks for the hard work you guys! 8)

Not sure if the last few tapes with studio material are legal to share like this, but for the moment I will leave it, see what the responses are… I think it is otherwise unavailable anyway.

      Oh, btw, that url thingy:

http://archive.org/details/tsp1993-07-04.sbd.ana.promo <= just don’t do the [url] tags

http://archive.org/details/tsp1993-07-04.sbd.ana.promo <= see how it changes to red color, indicating it is clickable?

If this doesn’t work at your side, you are probably not using Internet Explorer? IE saves the right info for this url thingy with the post, and maybe your browser doesn’t do that… Just a guess, I’m not that technical actually…

i haven’t heard it, but i really doubt it. i think this tape will sound very similar to the final version of mcis.

also, those "monitor mixes" are the most exciting. it’s a previously unknown recording from an acoustic show in london. including an acoustic starla. even quinto hadn’t found the audio in the archive yet. if it’s even there.

    • #38219

either way, thanks a lot for sharing these. you’re making a lot of people very happy with these.

were these tapes very expensive? you got them on ebay, right?

yeah, the monitor mixes are really the only thing worth downloading. and you’re right, the mcis master tapes are just that. the only difference ive heard so far is the static intro for bodies is a bit longer and you can hear billy make a "blah" sound after the song is over. i have a few more songs to go. i got em from someone who used to work at virgin. she actually bumped into billy there a few times. got the siamese b-sides tape from ebay and the others privately from the same seller.

and acoustic starla! yes! i just downloaded the show.

and arthur i didnt think about the legalities of this. do what you gotta do.

Nothing, at the moment. I used to be a kinda hardliner in public about these kind of things (while deep in my heart I want to share every note they played), but being the owner of this Pumpkins Plaza also comes with some public responsibility and public (financial) dangers. At the moment, my opinion is that sharing the Smashing Pumpkins songs that were never commercially released is OK. That includes rips from cassettes and vinyl that are not commercially available anymore also. And that includes unreleased material from inhouse promo tapes and cds, acetates, early mixes, whatever.

And to add to this: we have no commercial intentions here on this board, and if we happened to know each other in real life (live in the same city for example), we would be taping and copying and burning cds for each other too, like collecting friends and Smashing Pumpkins fans do, right? And that wouldn’t be considered illegal at all!

But yeah, there is always the risk of a "guest" forum reader, that picks up our downloadable stuffs, and sells it on Chicago Tapes vinyl, and then who pays the bill from Billy’s lawyer? It worries me sometimes, you know…

a millions thanks to ‘some pumpkins’ & all other guys involved.

the acoustic show is phantastic, great sound-quality & phantastic songs.
it’s always amazing how good the most pumpkins-songs are in an acoustic set.
(they should do more such shows, not only as promotion or surprising gigs)
