mirrorboxerSpectatorThanks for the offer! I’ve sent a PM.
mirrorboxerSpectatorThat’s not a cherub, that’s a putto… but the artwork is great.
[/quote:20xw2mmk][url:20xw2mmk]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherub[/url:20xw2mmk]
"In modern English the word is usually used for what are strictly putti, baby or toddler angels in art."
[url:20xw2mmk]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Putti[/url:20xw2mmk]
"modern English usage has blurred the distinction, except that in the plural, "the Cherubim" refers to the literal biblical angels, while "cherubs" is used more often to refer to the childlike representations (putti) or in figurative senses."
Do we really need to get into semantics…
mirrorboxerSpectator… and then a 12" picture disc with all 5 songs and a nice sleeve.[/quote:j743f6ug]
Is the vinyl like the pics above?
[/quote:j743f6ug]yes it’s just like it. dual unicorns pulling a chariot and a cherub in the sky on the aside. The bside has the astronomy chart.
mirrorboxerSpectatorI got mine last Friday (11/19) and I can say that everything is excellent. The vinyl sounds nicer than the lot of 7\"s that were available with the first ep (box set 7\"/vintage vinyl 7\"/ameoba 7\"). The overall quality of the package is nicer too. My only complaint is the inconsistancy of the project so far. And I’m only talking about the physical nature of everything.
1. We get a small wood box and then a large gift wrapped box.
2. We get 7\" unlabeled 1 song vinyl without a sleeve and then a 12\" picture disc with all 5 songs and a nice sleeve.
3. We get a cd sleeve that is a single slip cardboard with band name/ep title/song titles + picture and then we get a gatefold cd sleeve with band name on the spine/NO ep title/song titles + picture.
4. We get an oblisk and then NOTHING. I want the next installment of oblisk…and cottonwood sounds exactly how I’d suspect. It sounds real…..rootsy.
mirrorboxerSpectatorIf it’s a bootleg (which I thought it was), why is a reputable online retailer selling it? It just seemed strange that they wouldn’t mention it being \"unauthorized\" or something along those lines.
mirrorboxerSpectatorI need to find a cheap turntable soon![/quote:rg4f08qu]
I can help you out. I just upgraded my turntable and have a newish turntable sitting here in need of a new home. If you’re seriously interested in getting a turntable, PM me and we can work something out.
mirrorboxerSpectatorI finally got around to buying the Limited Potential 7\". Got it for $50.
mirrorboxerSpectatorPM sent.
mirrorboxerSpectatorFor me the two – collecting and the music itself – are almost entirely separate things.
If a release has music that can’t be found anywhere else, the value increases for me. But this is not related to the quality of the music.
On the other hand, it’s always a favourite piece of music, an album I really like, that gets me into collecting mode. That’s what happened with the Pumpkins and with many other bands.[/quote:3abk87il]
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
What usually ends up happening, is that I find a piece of work that I really like. That’s what turns me into a collector.
I agree that the music is most important. That is why I try to collect every song by the artist that I like. Even if I don’t particularly like it at the moment. I’ve grown as a listener in the past and appreciated music long after it was purchased. If the music is on vinyl, I buy that first and foremost. If the song is only available on CD, then I don’t have much of a choice. Up to now, the only band that I’ve bought both CD and vinyl of the exact same material is TSP. That is unless there is artwork differences (ie: Pisces Iscariot).
I’m am NOT a collector of every variation of every release. I also don’t collect multiple versions of the same songs if I can avoid it. That means no promos or imports unless there is exclusive music on it that can’t be found elsewhere. That is far to OCD for me. Some people enjoy that, but I can’t afford it. I enjoy to much music to dedicate that much money to one artist. Take for example Jack White and his label Third Man Records. INSANE! They release black, tri color, glow in the dark, bizarro, 7", 8", Triple Decker etc. of their releases. That get’s very very expensive considering they limit the special editions to 300 per release which drives the prices way up.
But what drives me crazy is re-issues and catalog numbers. That’s a different story for a different time…
mirrorboxerSpectatorThaks for the help. It looks like there is also so incorrect information on that page too. The data has capacity of 3000 listed, when in fact 650 is the accurate capacity. Interestingly enough, the soundcheck was recorded with a cell phone; I wonder who has that? I was hoping a better recording of the show than was I have would have surfaced by now, but…..
mirrorboxerSpectatorMinidisc is not forgotten. I still use it. I’m still looking for the Machina and Mellon Collie retail MD’s if someone wants to sell or trade them to me.
Regarding your Pearl Jam. It isn’t rare or even hard to get. It was on the Hallucinogenic Recipe CD box set and has now been released on cassette as part of the Ten box set re-release/remaster.
mirrorboxerSpectatorNo song info?? What the fuck. [/quote:sdy56vko]
Don’t worry….One of the tracks will be Freak and it’s a good one!
mirrorboxerSpectatorwhat i remember is that the cd in the ep1 box contained a slightly longer version of one of the songs.
the record store day 7" with wwmm has a shorter version of the song: it fades out after a couple of minutes.
maybe you are thinking about one of these?[/quote:pcgta025]
I have the box (longest), the download (middlest) and the 7" (shortest) and you are correct about them.
I don’t have the promo either, but I remembered someone saying that the promo version was different. I am also curious if there are any of these differences concerning freak. I’m not curious enough to buy the promo, but interested to hear the report from someone.
I’m still looking for a GLOW promo if anyone wants to help me out.
mirrorboxerSpectatorDidn’t the WWMM promo cd have a different version than that which was released to the general public (SP website)? I wasn’t trying to make any point, I thought that I remembered somone saying something to that effect.
Also, speaking of the GLOW promo, does anyone have one that I could buy/trade for?
mirrorboxerSpectatorcan i assume that it wasn’t a proper 10"?[/quote:9g3n8rzk]
I would assume this is similar to the tarantula 7" test that came as a 12". I couldn’t really tell from the picture. All you could really see was the label inside a diecut sleeve. Sorry I couldn’t have been more help. Like I said, I was planning to bid to win but was out for the day. I hope that they went to a good home.
mirrorboxerSpectatorThere were two test presses up. Both were 10\" of the 7\" honestly and lyric singles. I had them on my watch list and was out for the day so I never got a bid in. That seems to always happen to me.
mirrorboxerSpectatorBilly posted on Twitter yesterday:
"Small SP archive project update: had meetings today about progress on transfer of pre-Gish live tapes + also completion of Chicago Kid album"[/quote:2bny1sbu]
I don’t know why, but I always assumed that the archive project included pre-Gish studio material. I’d be glad for live recordings, but I was really looking forward to studio. idk, we have the demos already, but a bit of a let down you know.
mirrorboxerSpectatorAren’t you the one with the Siamese Singles test presses?[/quote:h0awub98]
I wish!
Even if I did, I’m not sure I’d be willing to part with them. Are you sure that you don’t just want to sell me your minidiscs cheap?
mirrorboxerSpectatorThanks for the heads up. Too expensive!!!
mirrorboxerSpectatorThere is one on Amazon.co.uk but far more expensive than I wanted to pay. So I’ll keep my fingers crossed that someone here wants to help me out.
mirrorboxerSpectatorno red; no dice
mirrorboxerSpectator…and to think all I bought was a Pisces US retail cassette that I never got around to buying before now.
mirrorboxerSpectatorRealistically if someone is going to give Glass & the Ghost Children and Thru the Eyes of Ruby a 10/10 and then give songs like Cherub Rock and Tonight Tonight a 9/10, do any of the new songs break past 5/10……doubtful. That being said, the new songs aren’t bad, just not realy comparable. And I think that is a fair assesment.
mirrorboxerSpectatorSong For A Song – Better
Widow Wake My Mind – Growing on Me
Stitch In Time – Best
Astral Planes – GoodI don’t want to compare them to past work so I am only comparing the new songs to themselves.
