      Cool bullet!

I found out a few other funny things, while researching the behaviour of our 25,000+ visitors since April 22, 2007. In the past year and 2 months, the most wanted page was the homepage, well that’s not a surprise I guess. But read on.

Most popular categories with 1,000 or more hits:

      1. CD (Official): 14,454
      2. Vinyl (Official): 3,860
      3. CD (Non-Official): 2,413
      4. Cassettes: 1,602
      5. Clothing (Official): 1,574
      6. Posters (Concert): 1,315
      7. Misc.: 1,069

But then, our 5 most popular items:

      1. http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=1620 (Zeitgeist promo, VERY closely followed by:)
      2. http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=1100 (MCIS genuine vinyl)
      3. http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=282 (Mashed Potatoes)
      4. http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=1628 (Gish long box)
      5. http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=2117 (MCIS fake vinyl)

What we see here is that our discussions & homepage article about the Mellon Collie vinyl attracted quite some visitors! Is this cool or is this cool! I think it is very cool indeed!

OK, as requested by manillascissor, here are a few more figures of the past year.

We have reached 2,544 items and 6,591 pics. For comparison, http://www.my-mistake.net/infinitepics/ have collected \"Image Count: 4,452\" since 1997. And what about our visitors?

Most people, 64.5% of the almost 26,000 visitors, get to SPfreaks.com by themselves, not by clicking on links somewhere else. They must have us in their internet favourites, or something. But the rest of 35.5% gets to us via so-called referrers. So who are these referrers, that are linking to us?

38.2% of the links come from (surprise, surprise): Netphoria. They linked us 263 times on the forum and 5 times in private messages. Top 5 heavily clicked articles from Netphoria:

      1. http://forums.netphoria.org/showthread.php?t=155411 (over 350 different visitors!)
      2. http://forums.netphoria.org/showthread.php?t=149756
      3. http://forums.netphoria.org/showthread.php?t=152535
      4. http://forums.netphoria.org/showthread.php?t=146849
      5. http://forums.netphoria.org/showthread.php?t=151347

14.0% of the links come from… Google! When people searched for \"spfreaks\", \"sp freaks\", \"True Power. True Faith.\", \"Mellon collie red vinyl\" or even \"mellon collie fake\" then they came across our website. Cool!

12.6% of the people that got referred to us, came from http://www.smashingpumpkins.com . News items like:

      http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/membernews_3351 (over 250 different visitors!)
      http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/membernews_1077
      http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/news_4019

attracted hundreds and hundreds of readers to http://www.SPfreaks.com . Nice!

Some other places like Blamo, ThePumpkins.net, Wikipedia (13 fixed links already!), eBay (MCIS 8M award for example!) and Zombtracker also linked us many times, but each of them is less than 5% of the total referrer links. But pretty cool anyway, I think we can be proud that places like Wikipedia and eBay slowly know how to find us.

Now I have to ask RedWolf how to check on the Countries where they all come from. I’m sure it’s in this mess of IP addresses somewhere, but having them translated to a country… Not my job! OK, hope to get back on that one.

Little update on who is linking us, and what causes the most traffic to our site. Status report over 07/01/08 till now.

#1 without any doubts: SP.com. With several SP news – and PMM articles about us, we jumped to the next level of daily traffic. The 2 most remarkable referring articles were, the one that manillascissor wrote about the new feature called \"My Collection\" (which attracted several hundreds of visitors) but the absolute blockbuster was, of course, the art contest we did on here. Another thing that manilla initiated. It attracted almost 2,000 individual visitors…

#2 Netphoria. Needs no further introduction… We still need to move the serious collectors from their forum to here, I guess.

#3 HipstersUnited. They mention us every now and then in their blogs, and it helps big times.

#4 Wikipedia. More and more releases and songs contain links to SPfreaks.com, and it works. Dozens and dozens of people use them to check us out.

#5 ThePumpkins.net. I was a little surprised to see this name pop up in the Top 5, as I expected that the Forums of Blamo would be above the TP.net Forums. But fact is, we have several members from here that pay regular visits to TP.net, and probably they link back to us every now and then. Keep it up, people!

All in all, it means that we have grown from an average of 50-60 visitors per day 1 year ago to 100-125 visitors per day for the Collection website now. The new feature called My Collection was 1 of the biggest success factors of course, and the art contest also. The art contest contributed big times to the SPfreaks Forum visits. As a result, the posts on the forum have grown in numbers quite rapidly also, from 30 per day average a year ago, till 60 to150 (sometimes more!) posts per day now. The average posts per day since we started this forum in July 2007, recently jumped over the 40 figure, and is on 40.83 today.

Yes, absolutely! All those clicks from several posts on the SP.com Forum together, run into the few dozens already. But compared to the SP.com total of many thousands of visitors that come to our site via a link in a PMM article, it’s still a rather small number… But I’m sure that will change in the next analysis, since the SP.com forum just started…

I just did a little inquiry on SP.com on how many times the other wellknown Smashing Pumpkins websites are being discussed, mentioned and linked to on SP.com. I was a little, but very pleasantly nevertheless, surprised… 8)

      SPfreaks – 327 times
      Netphoria – 230 times
      ThePumpkins.net – 175 times
      SPFC – 165 times
      HipstersUnited – 92 times
      Ozphoria – 76 times
      Siva (Blamo.org) – 57 times
      RSPAA – 54 times
      BCIT – 33 times
      Starla – 21 times
      InfinitePics – 21 times
      SPLRA – 12 times
      SPIFC – 12 times

What conclusion comes to mind now?

      Big times!

But, to put things a little in perspective again, I seperately counted the number of topics on the SP.com boards where these very same websites are mentioned, just to get an idea how "general" and "widespread" these other websites are. Not surprisingly, we are not #1 in that poll, as we are mainly mentioned in the "Live Recordings / Collecting / Trading" section of the SP.com boards.

      SPFC – 83 topics
      ThePumpkins.net – 81 topics
      RSPAA – 57 topics
      Netphoria – 54 topics
      SPfreaks – 43 topics
      Siva (Blamo.org) – 40 topics
      SPLRA – 27 topics
      InfinitePics – 23 topics
      Ozphoria – 16 topics
      HipstersUnited – 13 topics
      Starla – 5 topics
      BCIT – 2 topics
      SPIFC – 1 topic

OK, so far my freaky research. I like my first post about this anyway! I did not expect this outcome! 8)

Thanks. I happen to come across that Alexa site by accident, but it has pretty cool info. About the statistics, I was surprised to see HU and SP.com.ar so high, and Ozphoria so low in the ranks.

And about our position… there are over 230,000,000 websites worldwide (see: ), so we are in the top 1.8% of the internet worldwide. Just to put things in a global perspective… 8)

I think you misunderstand. Since there are no pics of you online (as far as we know), and certainly not on our website, they can and will not be directed to our website via a search engine when they enter "blueczarina" in there, for a picture search. Epic fail explanation, blue. :P
