Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorthanks for your reply, even though it wasn’t of much help indeed.
i guess they’re not really online people. you can be a fan of a band without being a member on their website, you know.
anyway, it doesn’t matter now. the normal ticket sale starts in half an hour. i’ll give that a try.
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatoris anyone a member on the muse website?
some friends asked me to buy them some tickets for a muse gig in belgium next june. they’re afraid it’ll sell out before they’ll be able to go online to order. tickets go on sale tomorrow, but if you’re a member on the website, you can buy tickets today in a presale. not sure how that works, but as a new member on the muse website (i registered a couple of days ago), this presale isn’t open to me.
dunno. is anyone an older muse-site member, and able to help me get access to the presale? it might not be needed, but it’s worth a try, i guess.2012.11.20 at 8:21 am in reply to: What is the latest Pumpkins related item you bought? (cont.) #45343
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorYou’re right Bram, it is the one from eBay. And the description did not really suit the situation indeed, but I knew that. It is the same type of promo as this one.

i believe i have a sealed TAFH box set like that too. (not a promo though.)2012.11.19 at 10:03 am in reply to: What is the latest Pumpkins related item you bought? (cont.) #45341
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorThirty-Three Canadian promo[/quote:1zt5mh6u]
i believe i saw this on ebay.
isn’t this just a US promo though, with a small sticker mentioning that it was imported, by emi canada, or whoever?i remember that the ebay description said "made in canada" and "virgin records canada", but when you looked at the pictures, it was clear that this wasn’t the case.

i knew it!
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorwhat job?
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorThere was no physical US pressing in 91.
The 91 Caroline LPs were made in Germany because it was the cheapest way to go.
In 91 it took HUT a couple of months (till August i think) to press the LP in the UK.Gish on vinyl:
91 Caroline Records US (manufactured in Germany)
91 HUT Records UK (manufactured in the UK)[/quote:3h1l9zg4]
so you’re saying that every copy of the album in the US was a german CARLP16. (and never a HUTLP2.) right?this is how i heard the story went: the first copies of gish were pressed in germany. CARLP16. but then, for whatever reason – i think the pumpkins moving to/signing with HUT – this changed, and they stopped pressing the german one, and started pressing the UK Hut one. (related to this change, i thought: their repeated rescheduling of the promo tour in the UK, see also the changing dates on the i am one flexi.)
i always assumed that after this change, the US started seeing Hut copies.
it does make sense though that the promo copies were German Caroline ones: the Hut pressing didn’t exist at the time the promos were given out.an example of this move from germany to the uk: i have a copy of gish that has a Hut record, and a Hut outer sleeve, but still has a Caroline inner sleeve. The code CARLP16 in one of the corners of the inner sleeve is blacked out. unless someone has been messing with different copies, which seems highly unlikely to me, this shows that Hut used the leftover inner sleeves from the caroline pressing.
what do you think?
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatori’m surprised you thought there was a ’91 US version, derek. surely you would have been able to get your hands on a copy by now, if that was the case. no?
same goes for lull, right? this was only pressed by hut in the UK. there never was a US version.
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorthe only US copy i know is the one with the more modern Caroline Rec logo. CAROL 1705. it’s definitely remastered, as it has \"HUTLPX2\" in the matrix code (which is the code of the ’94 UK remastered version – no way would they include that in the matrix code before 1994), but nowhere on the artwork does it mention being the remastered version.
also, i’ve always thought that the US release was released years after 1994. as if caroline decided to press a reissue in the US. my guess: early 2000s. i remember finding lots of new copies in that period.
dunno. is it confirmed to be a 1994 release? or is this just a guess?
i see spfreaks lists 2000 as the release year: http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=2667
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorpeople also forget there is no real "urgency of now". why the fuck does everyone have to have this shit the day it is released? it’s such a poor reflection on where our society is today. fucking RELAX![/quote:2kp2lu3f]
i agree. there’s no hurry.some albums i only buy after they’ve been out for over a year. doesn’t matter to me. the music’s the same still.

Cool As Ice CreamSpectatori could start my own website and sell the reissue for 4000 euro there.[/quote:2k48vbw3]
But reality is, EIL is f*cking serious, and you’re not.[/quote:2k48vbw3]
oh, for 4000 euro per copy, i’d be very serious.no problemo!
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorEverything else a ‘fair price’? Not in my universe, anyway. A ‘lower price’ I would call it. But not ‘fair’. I determine ‘fair’ by checking out other deluxe boxes, and their price settings.[/quote:1nm9d5rw]
all right. this seems the right way.
(but then i don’t see why you should refer to the eil.com price. it’s not needed in this strategy. it’s not a realistic price setting.)
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorAnd in your opinion, 80 Euro is still too expensive, while the difference between 60 Euro (your own suggestion) and 80 Euro is just 20 Euro? Compared to the price range we know now, with 80 Euro on the bottom end and 279 Euro on the top end, I call that peanuts.[/quote:1v81koiv]
hey, 20 euro is peanuts to a lot of people. i can piss away 20 euro and pretend it didn’t happen.
but 20 euro on top of 60 euro is a lot, relatively. that’s one third more.
no idea why you’d refer to the 279 euro here. that’s got nothing to do with it. i could start my own website and sell the reissue for 4000 euro there. but that doesn’t make the 20 euro any less when we’re comparing 60 euro to 80 euro.this isn’t really about what i can afford, or want to spend. we’ll see about that when it is for sale…
i’m convinced the price will drop though, because they’ll miss out on a lot of sales if they keep it at $100, which i still think is quite expensive for a set like this. (i really do!)
but hey, maybe they first want the $100 of everyone who doesn’t mind paying $100, and then they’ll lower the price a bit and start a second round of sales?dunno. did i miss something about the box set? is it made out of a certain expensive materials? silk and ebony? or is it just cardboard and plastic?
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatori understand what you’re saying about remastering, and preparing the bonus material.
but they were able to do the same thing for gish and siamese dream (except for that pisces iscariot bonus tape, which i personally think is a bit of an \"obelisk\" extra; useless) and only charge $25.
i don’t think the addition of the tape makes the whole thing ten euros more expensive, but i guess it did.the whole point of adding bonus material and selling it for less than the sum of the separate discs, is to get people to spend more money on the remastered albums. it’s supposed to be a \"good deal\".
giving each disc a value as if it was going to be sold separately is not the (normal) way to go if you want to price a box set. you’re supposed to get the idea that you get part of the music and all of the deluxe shit (packaging, postcards, whatnot) \"for free\" (if you stick to the add-up-prices-of-separate-discs thing).all i’m saying is that, even though $100 might be a better deal than paying $20 for each disc, to me, the price doesn’t make sense. to me it’s expensive. and i’m just surprised to see people on different messageboards cheer about the $100 pricetag. i didn’t understand.
i guess we won’t be able to agree on this.
by the way, that pisces bonus dvd is not marketable on its own. i think it rules, but that would never work.
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorComparing it with other places’ prices is a very valid argument.[/quote:3vbjykym]
not if they’re asking 280 euro for it at the other place. that way everything else is a fair price.anyway, for me, 80 euro is too expensive for what it is.
and i would have felt the same about 40 euro for the pisces iscariot deluxe edition. i thought 30 euro was already pushing it.
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorI see it from a different angle. $15 per disc is kind of normal these days.[/quote:ba7mvldw]
not if you put several discs in one package. $15 per disc is indeed kind of normal. but i wouldn’t say that $30 is normal for 2-disc releases. isn’t $20 a more common price for those?
and if you’re looking at some 10-disc releases, the price per disc is even less, and can easily drop to $5 or $6.Also I compared it to the 279 euro EIL is currently asking.[/quote:ba7mvldw]
that’s my point: you’re comparing it to absolutely ridiculous prices elsewhere. because of their ridiculousness, i don’t see how that can be used here as a valid argument. but clearly it’s given people the perception that $100 is a steal.
that’s why i asked how you’d feel about $100 if no higher prices had been listed elsewhere. but i guess it’s hard to tell, as you can’t go back in time and test the other scenario.
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorcontent-wise (6 discs), i think this is worth about the same as two 3-disc deluxe editions, max.
so about 50 euro.
this isn’t a 20-disc box set.i guess the big box increases the cost, so 60 euro seems reasonable still. but more than that? not in my (parallel) world.
note that the previous reissues also had extra deluxe stuff included, and came in a deluxe box (i admit: from looking at those mcis pictures, the mcis release looks a bit more \"deluxe\"), and were priced between 22 and 29 euro, if i remember correctly.
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatoryes, i think that’s rather expensive for what you get. they shouldn’t ask more than 60 euro, in my opinion. also, if they actually want to sell some copies, they’d better aim for a price even lower than that.
maybe everyone thinks it’s a good deal because it’s been listed at a much higher price for a while. maybe people got used to the idea that it was going to cost them $180 or so, and now they feel like they’re getting a good deal, because it’s \"only\" $100 now?
how would you have felt about $100 if that was the first price listed?
personally, i still believe the price will drop before this gets actually released.
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorBuy it rather cheap on Amazon Canada (80 Euro):
http://www.amazon.ca/Mellon-Collie-Infi … 354&sr=1-2[/quote:3iipm3ib]
80 euro? "rather expensive" seems better worded to me.

about the oceania LP test pressings, are these two entries duplicates?
http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=3659
http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=3777also, on the 3777 entry, i see the matrix code for side B is listed as "818610010018 Bre2 S-81207 KE 1"
wouldn’t that be more likely to end in "RE 1" instead of "KE 1"? the label also says "re 1".
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorYou made poor Mitty cry.
Shame on you, angry stranger!2012.11.06 at 3:26 pm in reply to: List time: owners of US Machina II Virgin in-house promo cds #41505
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorplease ignore my comments.
a record store i sometimes visit also has (homemade) machina II cd-rs for sale. one cd is CR04, the other cd contains the three EPs. i don’t know what the source is. the artwork doesn’t try to imitate the virgin promos.
if i’m not mistaken, they’re asking 12.50 per cd. hahaha!
how hard did they try to copy the original virgin promo cd? or is it possible they just downloaded (any) mp3s online, together with the black artwork of CR04, without having access to the real thing?
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorIf everyone was a bit more Mitt, this world would be a better place.
Thank you for being here, McRomRom! Good luck at the voting poll thingy.2012.11.05 at 7:51 am in reply to: List time: owners of US Machina II Virgin in-house promo cds #41502
Cool As Ice CreamSpectatorI found a copy (as in someone had made a copy) of CR-04 in a small and rather dingy Seattle record store today. The guy serving said just in case its a bootleg I’ll make it $4. I nodded and said it most definitely is![/quote:22ix1fiy]
