ArthurSpectatorWow, actually very good! Never thought I could actually like this type of electronics, but I have to say… it’s good!
But since you can handle an alternative approach to electronic rock, let me introduce another band I like (clip NSFW).
\"The Belgian sound art ensemble MAGDALENA SOLIS is named after the high priestess of an obscure Mexican 1960s blood cult. Thus it is well unsurprising, that listening to its music feels like undergoing a blood transfusion. âHesperiaâ is an elaborate blend of menacing Miasmah-Dones, the Mideastern-Psych of the GRAILS, Spacerock a la WHITE HILLS and the trippy Krautrock of ABUNAI. It is a colorful and surreal sonic journey into the bizarre and unknown states of the human spirit.\"

Here is their website ( http://magdalenasolis.bandcamp.com/ ), try that song Wake up and start to dream (I love the tune!) and their first album is now downloadable for free, I noticed. Try the song Jinxed for example, and play it loud… See if the speakers survive!
ArthurSpectatorWow!
ArthurSpectatorWell, I never heard from them anymore… Will you be so friendly to drive there? Would be awesome!
ArthurSpectatorIrony, I guess. If you see them play life, they are the inventors of a completely new type of performance. Hard to explain, you have to see it. I think it is called post-rock. They use everything, sometimes including the people in the audience, as an instrument to create rock drones & apocalyptical soundscapes. You never know if they fix an instrument/machine, or break it apart… It was quite funny. And impressive too, since it blowed us from our socks. Some tracks were very aggressive.

ArthurSpectatorSure, here you go. It’s a brown recycled paper cardsleeve with orange artwork and silver words. But all the extra pencil scriblings are the guy’s work. Maybe his signature is down right, I don’t know. It’s just a very funny item with a cool story…
ArthurSpectatorFake as hell. And the seller knows it.
\"I do not offer COAs nor do I agree with their appraisal methods and criteria. blablablablabla & bla. COA’s are essentially money-back guarantees- which I am unable to honor.\"
ArthurSpectatorAnd what to post there? Links to books about being halfway to the upcoming midlife crisis?
ArthurSpectatorAnd… you likes?
Either you like it or you hate it, I guess. This guy is in the same league as Godspeed You Black Emperor, Fly Pan Am, etc. But instead he is doing it all alone. I just browsed his MySpace pages (thanks for the link!), and someone somewhere wrote there: \"it conveys perfectly the idea of a post-nuclear barren land…\" and yeah… that’s it. The land where I wander sometimes, where I listen to just this music (or Godspeed, or Fly Pan Am).
Talking about Fly Pan Am, I have 1 of their albums, which I bought at a concert. After the show I went to their tour van, and I talked a bit with the guys of the band. Since no one else came to the same idea, I was all alone with them, while they were loading their equipment themselves, and I helped them (well, it’s not a big rock band anyway, though they are from Canada and were doing a rather proper European tour at that time)! Anyway, I asked them for a signature, which I never do, because I hate to ask such silly questions. Or maybe I’m shy, I don’t know… Anyway again, 1 of the band members took the album I had just bought, went into the tour van and it took him quite a while to come back. He returned the album to me, and to my astonishment he had reworked the whole album artwork with a pencil! I can not figure out if his signature is somewhere to be found between his drawings, but to me this is one of the coolest things ever happened in my music-listening-life…
ArthurSpectatorI wonder if he checked spfreaks!

He might have!
ArthurSpectatorA Death Cinematic – Epochs Shifting Out Of Time
A Death Cinematic – A Parable on the Aporia of Vengeance and the Beauty of Impenetrable Sadness (yes, I have 1 of the very limited, 250 copies only(!), 2CD release…)
If any of you is into apocalyptic, ambient, romantic, guitar droning that makes your spine shiver and your skin go goosebumps, please check out this 1-man-band. Get a feel for it with track names like \"we brave the storms while our lands fall into the sea beneath the pandemonium of the sun\", \"and these nights have brought us something worse\" and \"but to the gods these failures are torn by death\". Worthwhile checking out, believe me.
ArthurSpectatorI’m confused how she changed jacket all the time?
ArthurSpectatorThat’s a toy gun, silly!
And I had to laugh at the Pearl Jam pic, look at the silly texts on the wall…

ArthurSpectatorHello Friends,
Collectible vinyl record box sets of your favorite artists in the very highest quality 180gram vinyl for the ultimate musical experience.
James[/quote:arnqads2]
This is considered spam.
ArthurSpectatorIt is up, I downloaded it 6 hours ago already from the songlist.
And I heard/read a rumour somewhere (sorry, no source available, I have no idea anymore) that Gossamer is already recorded in 4 different versions when Jimmy was still in the band. In the year 2027 they will be released when we see the remastered version on 78 RPM vinyl of the Zeitgeist album!?
ArthurSpectatorThis is how I feel about it.

ArthurSpectatorOK, get it, thanks for the info guys! Makes it a funny promo anyway, and the price turned out to be a laughter.
ArthurSpectatorYeah I knew about the sticker, I asked also before I bid. To me a (genuine) sticker is the same as a promo stamp, so I’m VERY happy with it. But to me he did not explain about that \"it was lifted straight from a ‘Hospitality Pack’ issued to the band Gomez when they signed to Hut Records\". What does that mean exactly anyway?
ArthurSpectatorAnd I’m trying to hunt down the 1992 German Virgin Summer Slam promo cd, since it contains I Am One and the tour dates for the second German tour. Quite the curiosity![/quote:2gubltiw]
It’s funny you should mention that, because I just recently bought that exact CD. Not sure if it’s at my house yet, I’ll check when I get home.[/quote:2gubltiw]
I might have an idea which one you bought… I was having an eye on that one for a long time, but I thought it was too expensive. So I waited till the auction was over and ask the German seller… But he said he just sold it… Most probably to you, I guess! Congratulations! But I just scored something else from eBay. A Gish album UK promo cd for 7 dollar, not mentioned on SPfreaks yet!
ArthurSpectatorI found out that the guys from SPLRA just added a new song to the first ever SP show.
This show is from June 9th 1988. Last year it had "Lock Me Up" as the only song on their setlist, but now that I check, they added "Bleed". I’m guessing this is the same version as the MP version cuz it features only 1 guitar and 1 bass hence Billy and James only with a drum machine.
Interesting, I wonder how this guys got the info about Bleed played in the first SP show.[/quote:2d0lj2xi]
Funny, I recently noticed on a few other 91/92 concerts on SPLRA that indeed they somehow found out the dates of some Mashed Potatoes live tracks. For example, the second track on Mashed Potatoes, Tristessa, is actually recorded in my country Holland during the first proper tour of Smashing Pumpkins outside the USA!On a sidenote, very soon I might be able to add another Dutch date/venue to that early 1992 tour list, believe it or not! I know the venue already, they confirmed the Smashing Pumpkins gig in person to me already, but they are looking for the date and even the concert poster of that gig, if it is still available, as a proof, as we speak… I’ll keep you posted, I’m always very excited about such discoveries…
Anyway, but now I can add a date to Bleed also, for updating (which I just did) Mashed Potatoes on our website: http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=282 And I will re-check the whole of Mashed Potatoes soon to see what other live songs are dated by SPLRA. Maybe they have a direct link to the current SP Archive Guy? Thanks salkema, for pointing this out to us. VERY interesting!
ArthurSpectatorMedia-Lane International, headquartered in the UK (and the UK arm of Westwood One) owns the rights to this set, which can still be ordered on one of their web forms.
Anyone in the UK, want to go to the Media-Lane office and maybe just ask if they can get pictures of it?? heh.
Shawn[/quote:21s95vvd]
I’ve send them an email just now, asking for pics and which radio stations in NL received that set, so I can go there and take pics myself. Fingers crossed…
ArthurSpectator20+ new concert posters have been added to the collection, between
http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=3428 (Reading Festival UK 1992/08/29)
and
http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=3450 (Viejas Arena, San Diego 2010/12/12)
And 5 new flyers between
http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=3451 (Cabaret Metro, Chicago 1990/05/05)
and
http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=3455 (Viejas Arena, San Diego 2010/12/12)
And around 40 new magazines (without the articles, I’m afraid) between
http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=3456 (Who Weekly AU 1995/11/13)
and
http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=3498 (Monitor This US 2007/09/00)
Still 335 pics in the backlog, but I’m done for today. I’m going to enjoy something else now.
ArthurSpectatorI’m also assuming that everything will get a CD reissue. The question for me is, will only the CDs be remixed, remastered and include the bonus tracks, or will the vinyl be getting the same thing as well?[/quote:13fm3czm]
Nothing has been said so far about cds, but I’m hoping the same. I’m a cd collector. And I also hope there will be no differences between the future cd and vinyl re-releases, but… For commercial reasons, there will be differences, I’m afraid.
ArthurSpectatorI really think he accidentally lumped TAFH in here. I mean, he refers to it as a vinyl re-issue, but it’s never been issued on vinyl to begin with.[/quote:r1rolz7n]
LOL, you’re right… But I read it differently: the release will be re-issued on vinyl now. So to me it made sense.
ArthurSpectatorYes and yes. This is word-by-word what Billy said:
\"So by Christmas this year, Gish, Siamese Dream and Pisces Iscariot will all come out re-issued, re-mastered, with some extra tracks, unreleased things. And then in 2012, you’ll see Mellon Collie, Aeroplane Flies High, and Adore. And all this stuff will also be on vinyl, we’ll do really high-grade vinyl re-issues.\"
And thanks for that link, Opiate! Look at this part of the interview, it’s amazing!
Is it too early to talk about some of the bonus material that we can expect on any of the reissues?
\"Yeah, only because there’s so much material to go through. It’s mind-boggling. I was just in Chicago, and there were 700 cassettes all with material on them. Four-tracks, eight-tracks, board tapesâ¦and there’s 4,000 DATs. We have 41,000 pieces of things in our archive. We hired a professional archivist to go have a look at it all, and he said he’d never seen anything like it.
\"I’ve been sort of a completist from the very beginning. In fact, I found a tape of me and James Iha at the very beginning of the band, and we’re sitting in my bedroom recording my songs. It’s like we were doing a mini bedroom concert. Why I was documenting to that level, I don’t know. The nice thing, though, is that we can add it to this deal.
\"What’s going to go on Gish…it’s hard to say. We have to locate masters; some things have to remixed, while others have never been properly mixed. It’s going to take a while.\"
ArthurSpectatorJust bought a US compilation cd called Loaded Volume 1 with Disarm (acoustic). No idea if it is something new, but for 1 buck only I thought I could take the risk. Discogs doesn’t even mention that track on that cd. And I’m trying to hunt down the 1992 German Virgin Summer Slam promo cd, since it contains I Am One and the tour dates for the second German tour. Quite the curiosity!
