i might be wrong here, but to me, this looks like someone had the original autographs in front of him, and tried to reproduce them.

    [/quote:272gc8hs]

    agreed!

    JC look ok-
    BC too-
JI might be ok to (he did scirbble quite a bit…)

    but-
above all- the BC sig is his ‘2000’ one…
being – his full name + some kind of @-sign of something added—-

now- JC signed like this in the 2000, as did JI-
just check some items on this site – i think my promotion SIYL cd is on here with JI and BC and some other promo with JC too-
now way D’Arcy was around, harhar…

    so-
    1- JC > could/might be real
    2- JI > could/might be real
3- BC > looks genuine to me
    4- D’Arcy > faked

    the whole item:
    > because of the fake devaluated…. as far as I am concerend-
with the three quite ok to ok sigs it would have been worth more…

you need to see a lot of signed stuff. this way you get used to the autographs, and it becomes really easy to spot the fakes.

it’s always possible that someone does a great job faking the autographs, but usually, the fakers just invent one, and throw their item up on ebay, together with a "certificate of authenticity" they printed out.

The one you posted looks real. I can’t really see the BC autograph, but the JC and JI autographs look familiar.[/quote:17u50kcx]

    I see.
Well i added some more pictures of the cd.
And its indeed as Bram said, its an marc goodier cd.

Seems this marc goodier was/is indeed a radio guy, and working for BBC radio 2, plus he was host Top Of The Pops.

hot pink = bright pink. top left in my photo.

from what i know the purple/maroon is the earliest or original. I guess that when it was released all copies were that colour and the orange/peach came afterwards but I don’t know for sure. They seemed to make those orange ones for a very, very long time. They seemed by far the most common. the pink came after that i think, just before the black ones.

you could try asking shawn, collectspumpkins about the early pressings. he probably has a better idea than me.[/quote:1jvo6knn]

pressing wise this is what i have always understoond too.
first pressing > the marroon/purple/dark red ones
subsequent pressings > pink/peach/salmon getting lighter and more true pinkish/red and even orange as time went by.

i for one am very curious as to the contents of these tapes!!!

i guess it’s the Moon demo indeed and the Paris show indeed….
still i’d be very interested to check these out!

and above all the MCIS tape of course!!!

i’d swear there’s also a ‘red’/’purple’ version which is kinda translucent-
    i’m not quite sure though—-
i kinda think i remember to have seen a copy once in Chicago-
maybe Jeroen can shed some more light on my failing memory????
he too has quite a selection of colours and i kinda recall there’s a red/dark red/purple version which is ‘solid’ and one which kinda ‘shines through’ – not sure though—-

Nailed this one.Only 1 were ever made, so i can brag about having a cd you guys dont have.

    [/quote:3a9wecxt]

    with all due respect!!!!

a GENUINE Town House CDR normally WOULD -INDEED!!!!!- justify it to be one-off or at least one of a very very very very small amount of copies—
as TH produces the ‘masters’ and these ‘just’ have to be checked and ok-d and then sent on to be mass-produced…

I am NOT saying this ONE is NO totally genuine TH-cd master copy for reference….

    however:

your copy bears the infamous "APPEARING’ sticker on the front—-

as such this very copy at least was issued as a PROMOTIONAL copy… hence the sticker…

    now-

    let’s say-
    – for a vinyl TH normally kinda makes like 1 to 5 copies to check for label, management and artist; this seems kinda like OK, doesn’t it- I mean: this is kinda the VERY least you’d make for a major release before production starts full scale—
    – for a cd TH normally kinda follows the same path as these too have to be checked—-

    now-

that’s just for the TRUE ‘check’ copies of the ‘master’-

    now-

    what’s this then?
a- a ‘master’ copy which was promotionally used?
b- a promotional cd made by TH as it had to be done quickly and such and thus they made a couple of copies to be distributed to the press or radio or something?

at the very least I would suspect this one at least is not a one-off—

i might be wrong, but these were just my two cents—-

    cheers,
    sven

    ps-
anyone can put down the ‘1 of 1’ right?
i mean if that’s the case… why write it down in the first place? and why then promotionally use this?
    just some questions-
i’m just curious as to the provenance and more-
it DOES look cool and still it’s a VERY cool item!!!

    just my 2 cents-

Arhtur’s copy to me is genuine one-

The other copy is a bootleg-

Anyone could have found either a real promo or a good rip or anything (heck: I had the show from the promo pretty soon after the release of the promo)….

This was a Radio Promo (and give-away) in Mexico-
In really limited numbers; you just don’t DO 2 different versions as far as I am concerned….

    Either one is real-
Apart from Shawn’s copy I think I’ve seen one other one just the same once, somewhere…

    So-
I’d say Arthur’s/Shawn’s copy is the real deal…
The rest nudges towards a knock-off like with Earphoria et al….

Might be wrong- just my 2 cents and gut-feeling about this now—-

    Thnx A-

It’s an awesome and splendid upload!!!
    I’d never seen it before-

    Some remarks on this though-
(nothing to do with the rip or anything, so don’t worry, A-, haha)

There’s quite some focus on the old stuff and bygone years-
Then – around 3/4s in – it moves to now-

    And then it SAYS—–
    THEIR blablablablab-

    Who is THEY????

    As in:

This might be the first and genuine time we’ve seen TSP present themselves as BC per se!

As it was the original band, the orignal band sans JC, then JC there again—

The only common factor = BC….!!!!!

    Even then?!!!!!

For a Zeitgeist promo I tend to feel it harks back a little too much too way back when—

Now, having seen the dvd and having been through the rest and all with JC and all—

    I guess—-

    The old days ARE valuable!!!!
The old days with the four: BC+JC+JI+DW

The old days therafter ARE valuable!!!
These old days with: BC+JI+DW (and some touring peeps; including Matt Walker who was really really REALLY special after a while- I mean, not to pride myself, but just read my interview with Matt over @ TSP.com… )

The old day therafter ARE valuable too!!!!
Those old days with: BC+JC+JI+MADM (and some extras)

    And-

Then the sequence moves on to now-
    To—-
    To what?!
    To TSP as per BC+JC?!!!
    Or am I stupid????

    OK-

    Then and there—-

    TSP was>
    TSP as per the four….
    TSP as per the Adore-threesome….
TSP as per the MACHINE foursome in studio, but not live, so as per: the TSP/MADM deal….

What I am trying to say—-

    See—

Even from this clip it’s obvious…..

    TSP = = = = = = = = = BC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Therefore >>>>>

TSP now is alive and kicking!!!!

The one and only CONSTANT in this clip is BC….
    BC = = = = TSP…..

Or do you wanna have more proof?!

    It’s like this-
    Take it or leave it-
    BC’s been there all along——

    TSP = BC

I wish I could find one of the Zeitgeist 5 track watermarked listening party CDs…….[/quote:229qdmc5]
See, it does exist… I’m having troubles even finding the standard album promo, let alone this one…[/quote:229qdmc5]

Yes, it does exist, Davin and I saw it at the Chicago Listening Party. I want to say that I got a picture (or 2) of it, but I’ll have to dig through my archive and see.

I actually reached out to the girl who ran the listening party in Chicago and she is no longer with WBR and doesn’t have her copy anymore. I asked her to see if any of her old contacts may have theirs, so we’ll see what happens.[/quote:229qdmc5]

Here in Holland – as far as I know – there was NO (press) listening party…
I.e. there WAS – but press was afterwards given the watermarked FULL promo…
Not there and then, but still….

However- through the label rep. here I learned, these promos were to be sent back to Warner US to be destroyed/kept/whatever…

Chances might be slim to find one- however: NEVER DESPAIR… stranger stuff has popped up!
However- back in the Virgin days Virgin Recs might not have had too tight a policy and now with all the leaking going on stuff might have gotten a lot tighter…
Still- it’s not beyond imagination to find one, just dig deep into Warner and see what you can come up with…
I just can’t be half-arsed anymore, but that’s the way I found some gems… so give it not one, but NUMEROUS tries, even through some years (maybe even- EVEN through the years!!!) and see what happens!! ;)

dead formats normally tend to get worthless-

    i.e.: 8-track, MD, DAT, DCC, LaserDisc, cassette…

    however-

the early TSP demo tapes will remain valuable-
as will these from other bands-
just for the true collection’s sake-

there just are more completists or collectors looking for those TITLES than looking for a standard title on CASSETTE… I guess?!

in reply to: MCIS 3LP Prices—A discussion #33371

    Sven
    Spectator

As someone who bought over 30 copies of these when they came out, I have been rather surprised at the prices the 3LP sets have consistently been going for on Ebay. A couple of auctions I was tracking this week ended and I wanted to get some feedback from you all, on your thoughts.

Auction #1) Item #290300709483 (Ebay UK)

    MCIS #120.

Yep. #120. Supposedly, the earliest number that has ever appeared on Ebay. In the description, the seller mentions the following, in regards to the condition:

"The cover has a few minor scuffs around the edge (which can be seen in the picture) but otherwise in very good condition.

The vinyl has only been played once (to record it!) and I can’t see any scratches on it, but one of them has a slight dent (Huh?) at the very start of one side, not actually on the playable surface so playback is not affected. It’s one of those dents sometimes produced in the processing of the vinyl and is hardly noticable so I would say though that they are all in very good condition."

Final Price: 203.55 UK Pounds (equivalent to $283.16 in US Dollars)

    ____________________________________________________________________

Auction #2) Item #270354422512 (Ebay France)

    MCIS #16013 (SEALED)

Yep, you read correctly. This one is still sealed and has never been played. I actually placed bids on this set (quite high), but was flying back home and missed the end of the auction.

Final Price: 167,81 Euros (equivalent to $215.63 in US Dollars)

    _____________________________________________________________________

So which one do you think was more rare and/or collectible? The one with some minor flaws and the low number or the one that was sealed and never played?

In my opinion, the one that was sealed was more valuable than the low number one. The reason being that few were sealed and the fact that 14 years later it was still sealed meant something. How many people did open their copy to play it, look at the vinyl, read the booklet, etc.?

Plus, I’d have to wager that we’d see a low number on Ebay again versus a sealed copy. This was proven already, with #190 being sold recently with a buy-it-now price of $285.00 (Item #260373565892).

What do you think? Would you rather have a low number or sealed copy?

    Shawn[/quote:2rvv1tbe]

    Shawn-

Standard collector’s knowledge (as you would know for sure!!!) tends to value lower numbers higher than higher numbers.
The most infamous example is the White Album by The Beatles…. ;)

    This number IS low.
    Very very very low.

OK- so the record is not mint…
Whatever- the number is low; that’s what you pay for.

The other copy is in pristine mint condition.
It does have a higher number.
Whatever- the condition is superb; that’s what you pay for.

    All in all-
    It’s a trade-off between number vs condition….

I have seen almost destroyed low number copies of the White Album fetch awesome amounts.
And perfect ones not too high up fetch next to nothing.

Plus: i’ve seen a totally soiled VU LP signed by the complete band + Warhol being sold before my eyes for a shit load of cash… it WAS a first press and a mono one and signed ok… but the vinyl looked like shit and the cover was soiled and all… so I guess all figures in to make a price…

Still: Shawn: this is no, totally NO news to you!!!! ;)

    > the second MADM project will blow your mind, saw it live and it wasn’t there YET… but the whole concept is very daring, out there, complex and arty and totally cool…!

    > the Iha album was sunshiney very much so ok I thought.

    > the JCC record was ok and cool, live it was awesome to witness!

    > BC solo and TFE; the record was so-so to me, live it was pretty decent to good…

    > Zwan was awesome before the record came about; then it went downhill, the show I saw in Hamburg was pretty decent, from then on it was decline all the way…

Ron can lay claim to appear on the first demo tape ft. TSPs name.

And yeah, you could be right about the history of those type of cds… as long as we don’t question its genuinity, I’m fine with whatever label we give it… It’s the same with "mispressings" or "one-off vinyl colors" sometimes also, as some people just like to mess around in the factory, take it home for personal fun use, and then later it reaches the collectors market. Sometimes even for good bucks. When you think of it, it’s crazy! But it’s how it works, I’m afraid.[/quote:1oiyfwlt]
