CollectspumpkinsSpectatorFor the hardcore collectors, their perceived value will increase because it is an obsolete format – it’s more interesting then, and harder to get a hold of.
For the casual, it will decrease because frankly, it’s not that impressive.
Basically, prices will lessen because it will only be a niche group that wants it.[/quote:2sssma7g]
That is pretty dead on right there.
I just wonder if you’ll need to include a cassette player with your auction in 5 years….hehehehe
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorI wish I could find one of the Zeitgeist 5 track watermarked listening party CDs…….[/quote:3cl5l2na]
See, it does exist… I’m having troubles even finding the standard album promo, let alone this one… [/quote:3cl5l2na]Yes, it does exist, Davin and I saw it at the Chicago Listening Party. I want to say that I got a picture (or 2) of it, but I’ll have to dig through my archive and see.
I actually reached out to the girl who ran the listening party in Chicago and she is no longer with WBR and doesn’t have her copy anymore. I asked her to see if any of her old contacts may have theirs, so we’ll see what happens.
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorI saw that auction for the DVD set and was hesitant to bid, since the seller him/herself wasn’t sure if these were true promos. There is no press sheet or anything and the DVDs are the same ones in the commercial release, just in a paper sleeve. So for all we know, the DVD box could have been damaged and this is what the seller had left…..but a good price regardless.
I like the Zwan 5 track promo.

I bought IAGW off a website that sells mostly promos. I have been buying promos from them for years, so I figure it would be a promo since I also saw the auction for the DVDs. I believe Authur picked one of them up off ebay. Anyways for $7 you can’t go wrong (no pun intended).
[/quote:3w20wut8]
What website is this? Care to PM it to me?
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorJust got IAGW Promo DVD and a EU 5 song sampler CDR/Honestly CDR… all for under $15.

CollectspumpkinsSpectatorSo I may need some help on this one. I’ve found the Zero 12" for like $55 US, and my question is if it’s like worth that ammount of money? And is it known exactly how many copies there are?
Here it is: http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1095 and this one says it’s lower than 500? Could that be so?
Thank you.[/quote:2aue9mu8]
Well it was a HUT Promo, and since the UK is smaller than the state of Texas, I could see that number being somewhat accurate. The price isn’t horrible, Esprit has one for 45GBP, but as a rule you want to try and pay around $40 for that in my opinion.
Shawn
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorand why do you have so many copies of that vinyl collectspumpkins? did you run a store or something?[/quote:2e1xhgws]
Hahahaha…I wish. I was fortunate when a lot of the items came out that I had some good friends that ran some music stores that gave me some nice volume discounts (hence why I had over 25 copies of MCIS numbered). But with this, you may or may not know, HUT originally only listed that there were going to be 5000 copies made of this single. But like so many other items, they just kept making the things. So I ended up getting stuck with more than I wanted. Plus I didn’t know the band would call it quits 2 years later.
In the end, I thought I’d be able to trade these for other items, but that never materialized. So now I have a nice closet full of Ava Adore 7" singles…heh. So who knows, maybe someone will buy a few of them.
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorthis one made me lol

Hehehe. Glad I could make you laugh. This is my auction. I have over 150 copies just sitting here, so I figure I’d try a fixed auction and let as many people who wanted one, pick one up. We’ll see if it works. hehe.
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorYeah I bought it. I put in a high bid, and some guy crept it up. He should of kept going, for only $20 more, it could have been his.
However, it’s not. It’s mine now. [/quote:amxbolc6]
But why put in such a high bid, so you wouldn’t have to wait at the end of the auction to see what happened? It is kinda like one of those situations where you threw up a crazy bid, thinking it’d never get that high and someone called your bluff. But I guess if you put in a bid of $285, you obviously felt the tape was worth that much.
But for the final price, hey, look at it this way….$135 per song. STEAL!!
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorFuck, I had my eyes on this right here but the price just rocketed….
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … 0295743239
WHAT an item though….
Did any of you guys buy it?[/quote:1wb2ggzs]
I didn’t buy it, but I know someone here did. I find it sad that the price of this tape went for what some of the demo tapes have gone for in the past.
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorThere was a copy on eBay, it went for 150 dollars, so i guess its very rare.[/quote:30invhm1]
To me, it means that a collector is willing to pay (to) good bucks for a cd that is not even that rare. For a few dozens of bucks more he could have had the Tonight, Tonight BBC disc. Which is, compared to that "Pop Mix that-is-no-pop-mix-after-all", incredibly rare! So I would call that Pop Mix thing a little overpriced… [/quote:30invhm1]Yes, that is your opinion, but you don’t need to slam the person who bought it. You have your impression of what’s rare, so does everyone else. They won’t always be in line. But just becuase you think that the Untitled CD isn’t rare, doesn’t make it so.
At the end of the day Conjecture reigns supreme, meaning that the value of an item is only what 1 person is willing to pay for it. Like the Rotten Apples set that is $500 that you pointed out, it probably won’t get any bids (hopefully).
And while the BBC Tonight Tonight CD is rare, my only problem with those, is this:
With those Kodak/Gold CD-R promo’s, who is to say that someone internally at the label just burned that to listen to himself/herself? Is it truly an "official" CD that was meant to be distrubted? That is my only beef with those, is that you never really know what their original intent was. Because even the Machina 2 US In-house promo was done somewhat officially, with a Virgin logo, etc. These Gold/Kodak CD-R with handwritten labels could have just been someone’s attempt at burning a CD of a song they wanted, yet it gets sold later on and now becomes an "official promo release", it just makes me skeptical, that’s all.
Shawn
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorI’d like to add this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … 0295743239
Really? For a 2 song promo tape? Whichever one of you put in that max bid, you are RETARDED.
If you want to piss away $300 US again, let me know, I’ll give you a few ideas.
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorFinally, I got myself a nice copy of G.L.O.W.. Sealed AND stickered. Perfect!
[/quote:1pgy3dxc]
I saw that on ebay, but thought that $93.00 was pretty high for that. I will hope to find a sealed one cheaper. {crosses fingers}
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorPromo CDs
e) Untitled (Pop Mix)[/quote:2a5u9qmq]
Isn’t that a little overrated? As far as I know, it is just the original song, no different mix, and rather widely available also back then… [/quote:2a5u9qmq]Awww…we didn’t need the eye roll…heh.
But I could see your point. It might be a tad overrated, however I’d argue the point that it was widely available. It was only sent to major radio stations in key markets that wanted to play it.
I could easily replace that with the Q101 contest CD-R that Derek has, since there are only 3 copies.
BTW—about time I made a road trip to Tennessee…heh.
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorUh, I’m missing some really rare stuff, but have some really rare stuff too:
Adore FR Live in Paris promo

CollectspumpkinsSpectatorI won that Try, Try, Try promo. [/quote:2y6oeq73]
Revenge!!! :p
Nah…it’s good. I owned that previously, so I wasn’t as keen on it. But I do still like that CD a lot. Especially with the Summersault Tour Dates on Back.
I’ll just be better prepared for our next ebay duel. hehehehe.
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorI know, I’m a freak. Or at least a freaky completist Smashing Pumpkins CD collector. I just ordered all the 20th Anniversary Tour shows on grey discs (14 in total), since Brad Serling of NUGS.NET told me they are still available, by special order via the man himself.
Now, start calling me names… [/quote:30gicvzh]
Huh? I am confused.
So they had the original set that you could buy for like $429.95 and then what is this set that is on grey dics?
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorHmmm…I guess the winner was a deadbeat, because the seller has already listed it again here:here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … 0339916640
I threw up a very low bid, to get rid of the Buy it now.
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorFuture releases for this year include the Pixies, Death Cab for Cutie and more.[/quote:13r7btrd]
Ooh! What Pixies release(s)? I checked the website, but I didn’t find any news on this.[/quote:13r7btrd]Here: http://www.ainr.com/news/artist-in-resi … n-2009.htm
"Happy new year to all. We are looking forward to a great year at A+R and wanted to let you all know some of the projects scheduled for release in 2009. The Pixies, Wu Tang Clan, Death Cab For Cutie, and professional skateboarder Danny Way are just a few of the collaborations set to be released this year. Check in on the progress of these and stay tuned for more announcements."
Don’t know what Pixies item it could be since all of there releases are on vinyl and have recently been remastered and re-released.
As for the Zeitgeist Vinyl, the exclusivity deals were probably pertaining to a CD format and not a vinyl format, so that should not be an issue. I agree with American Gothic probably not being a part of it, unless it was like a separate 10". But I would like to see Superchrist on vinyl, maybe as a bonus 7" then. heh.
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorArthur says:
By email I have another discussion going on about WLP’s: do they come in black sleeves, or blue sleeves, or both? I think it’s better to have everyone involved in this discussion… So, can somebody either confirm OR correct the current WLP entries on SPfreaks.com, if they have the right sleeves, and is the rest of the info also appropriate?
Next to that, my question would be: the blue sleeves are more rare, right? Do you vinyl collectors consider that to be influencing the collectors’ price you want to pay for it? Some of you are buying several copies of the same WLP, so I guess you must have an opinion on that one…
Another question, what is the FULL list of WLP releases? I come to 8 or 9, if you think of it (considering it are UK 10"/12" singles/albums + 12" Peel Sessions EP):
-Peel Sessions http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1542
-I Am One 12" http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1399
-I Am One 10" http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=2593
-Siamese Dream 2LP http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1548
-Cherub Rock http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1538
-Today http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1397
-Disarm http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1539 (missing pics! who scans?)
-Zero http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1095 (not really a WHITE label…)
-Stand Inside Your Love http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1876 (missing pics! who scans?)
_________________[/quote:2yz8cdrx]Color of Sleeve: Doesn’t mean anything. Should not have an affect on price at all, since they were standard Hut sleeves and I doubt there was any intent other than for Hut to use what was readily available.
I also think it is highly likely that you would see a WLP release (e.g. Cherub Rock) that would come in both sleeves (Black or Blue), again depending on what stock was available on hand.
WLP List: It will only be items distrbuted/released by HUT. Everything else will not be a WLP, but a Test Press (e.g. the Tristessa one found recently on this site).
Shawn
CollectspumpkinsSpectatorI am flexible. So whatever you want to do, let me know. You can PM me or e-mail me directly (PM for e-mail).
I’ll start working up a temporary list, basically updating the Blamo one I created and adding to it.
The thing to remember is that all values are conjecture, in that an item is only truly worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. However, there should be a good baseline to use that should withstand the downturn in the World Economy.
Regards,
Shawn
