ArthurSpectatorVirgin promo cd with To Sheila. Finally. Had been looking for that sucker for a really long while.
ArthurSpectatorAh yes, oops, missed that info. Lately it turned out that Derek did most uploads of albums send in by email.
ArthurSpectatorIs there also a Mexican one (like the previous reissue box sets)?[/quote:1xvo2ncz]
Excuse me? What did I miss? Why isn’t that on SPfreaks.com (and in my collection too)?
ArthurSpectatoralso, how is billy going "full blown solo" "a great new direction for the band"?[/quote:2nwk3ndp]
Unemployment is considered a great new direction, I guess?
ArthurSpectatorlike something is completely missing.[/quote:lueqhpw7]
Yeah, the spirit of a young band, eager to make it, whatever that is in whatever context. But Billy made it already, he has nothing to prove anymore as a youngster. He has something to prove as a 45 year old artist. I have seen several bands play live and release Greatest Hits version #1M, and those bands do what Billy doesn’t want. Yet, and hopefully never. But yeah, he is older, wiser in his own way, and he has a completely different perspective on life and its struggles with people, love, sex, drugs and other issues. And the current era in which we live in general. So I’m not blaming him for making the choices he made on Oceania.Furthermore, I see absolutely no reason why changing or dismantling the flagship of the Smashing Pumpkins is going to change that (already grown) spirit. Billy still needs a drummer, a guitarist, a singer, a keyboard player for doing his type of art. And his voice, with his words, is one of the very characteristic elements of his musical art. I don’t even want that to be changed, if I may have a vote in that!
And he will never get back that spirit of the 1980 and 1990 era. He doesn’t even want to go there, as he stated many times already! Because those who stay there and never move on, are sad people, in a way. Just my humble opinion (too). And I see the moniker Smashing Pumpkins work for him and his current band, so why the need to change? I don’t see it at all.
And Billy writes about more current things, and expresses that in his current way. Intellectual? Maybe, he has always been intellectual, so that didn’t change. Forced? Maybe, but life (and the musical decisions within life) come with choices, give and take, and when Billy wants the band to be more involved compared to let’s say the Siamese Dream album, then some musical decisions might look forced. I don’t know, I don’t have that feeling about Oceania. It’s a mature, good album. Again very different from previous albums. Again with completely different art. And because of that very Smashing Pumpkins again. And in a 45 year old guy context who happens to be responsible for 75 to 99% of everything the Smashing Pumpkins are doing. Now and then. And hopefully a lot to follow in the future.
Just my 2 cents.
ArthurSpectatorno reason to create menudo all over again.[/quote:1494zzyf]
What does ‘menudo’ mean? Never seen that word, and Google Translate doesn’t recognize it either…But I don’t think that is going to happen soon, Billy leaving or stopping the band. With the Oceania boost they will continue for a few years more in the current setting I think.

Good. I think at least a dozen Smashing Pumpkins rarities took the ‘US stopover’ route to me.The most stupid thing, and that was rather recent also, was an eBay seller from Japan that ships to US, Canada, few other places, and also to a few countries in the EU, which were Germany and UK if I remember well. But NOT TO HOLLAND. Yeah right. F*ck you, not buying anything from you, assh*le. Not even by the ‘US stopover’ route. Never.
ArthurSpectatorI wish I could contribute to this ‘Dutchies only’ topic, but I did not receive my SPRC order yet, with the shirt.
I burned the Smashing Pumpkins 1989 demo tape tracks download on cd however, and I fully enjoy them, playing them over and over! Not much remastering done on them however, it seems.
ArthurSpectatorCongratulations everybody
ArthurSpectatorI fully agree with that. Here is my bullet hole promo nevertheless, it was uploaded today. Just for fun.
ArthurSpectatorSeems correct to me, just that the Taiwan release is also the EU pressing with a local obi. I still have to receive the Mexico release, so not sure yet if that is a local pressing. Should we have a seperate entry for the French EU release?
Several sources mention 10 test pressings for the vinyl, and the UK promo is the EU pressing indeed. Debby send in scans of the AU/NZ pressing so I will try to make some uploads in a few days.
ArthurSpectatorThat looks like bronze to me?
ArthurSpectator\"Limited Edition 1 of 5 2\" Commemorative Ocean Cruise & Listening Party Souvenir Button featuring Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins and Jonathan Monte of Crestfallen.com. \"Everything the light touches is our kingdom.\"
Ships everywhere.\"
I already had the very firm idea that I recognized Mr Monte, but I also wandered who is that random stranger next to him? Billy Corgan of what? Right. Noooooo idea who that is, but I think a price of $250 – $500 would have been more fair… Lucky buyer!
What did you pay for your button, Bram? And even more important, should we reserve an entry on SPfreaks.com for this it-really-blows-my-mind collectors’ item?
ArthurSpectatorAnd in this post I read about \"silver\" and \"bronze\" metallic plaques. So far I have only seen this type of plaques, which is to my opinion an (almost) black plaque with white/light grey letters and figures. My #19 has exactly the same plaque. But maybe someone here can show a pic of a plaque of this box that is either bronze or silver?
ArthurSpectatorI just found this on page 24 of that pretty cool french booklet ‘Chroniques d’Un Monument’ that was just entered in the database:
http://spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=3708 (the page called Discographie)
ArthurSpectator#19 has the \"Limited Edition\" sticker on the box, with a little barcode sticker below it with that \"4 018396 006854\" number. That same sticker is on the back of the wooden box too.
You know, I’m getting the idea that it might have gone like this: Smashing Records produced several hundreds, maybe even all of the 1,000 boxes in the end, and ships them somewhat randomly all over the world without any cd/booklet. The music store that bought this box, put their (over-)stock of Siamese Dream cds/booklets from the jewelcase version in the wooden box and tried to sell it. Maybe that’s why we find somewhat randomly both the Dutch cd/booklet and the US cd/booklet in this box?
And maybe that little barcode sticker is only on the initial batches of a several hundred of wooden boxes that were send out? Just a guess too…
ArthurSpectatorNow that is what I call a HIGHLY collectible item!
ArthurSpectatorThat barcode assumption seems right, but the number produced… I don’t know. I recently acquired #19 in Thom’s garage sale, so I checked around a little. I found #915 on eBay, and added the pics provided on the auction to the SPfreaks database. It is still for sale, if I am right.
Funny to see now that #82 does not have the Dutch red cd, but the Virgin US cd, and the 4 page booklet instead of the 20 page booklet…
ArthurSpectatorLooking better…
ArthurSpectatorLooks like she is selling some stuffs on eBay. I noticed another award she has up for auction. She just sold an Adore award too…
[/quote:29ml705h]
This award I mean. I’m sure she was hoping to get a little more for it, after that Adore award sold for over 700 bucks.
ArthurSpectatorAnother one for ya.
Go here, and click track 17 (Ava Adore). Enjoy!
ArthurSpectatorLooking good…
