ArthurSpectatorWould be extremely unfair to the hardcore fans WITHOUT the big bucks. Not a good idea, Billy!
(Unless there will be a CD release for a standard price also, after all.)
And I don’t think it is HEAL ME, but REAL DIE, on that cassette. And semi-non does make sense, but it says semi-new indeed.

ArthurSpectatorwhat makes you think the cd won’t be purple (like all other zeitgeist cd releases)???
my guess is that this is just a funny scan of the "normal" uk yellow edition. but who knows…[/quote:38qs3a1k]
"There will also be a green & red sleeve for other retailers â standard CD will then be purple" <= for me it implicates that this yellow release contains a non-purple disc. But yeah, that is my guess also, like you said.
ArthurSpectatorHolding it as we speak, being the proud new owner…
ArthurSpectatorWe are watching the movie \"2012\" on Dutch tv as we speak!

ArthurSpectatorI thought the hunt for the 1,000+ different Zeitgeist versions was over… Maybe not. I’m having a lead to another yellow version from the UK, as it looks now with a non-purple disc. The artwork could be really yellowish yellow instead of brownish yellow, that we already know. But it might be the standard UK yellow release also, which comes with the purple CD anyway.
This is what the seller states, and shows as the pic of this release.
\"CD is a limited exclusive for indies stores only â the cover art will be in yellow. (There will also be a green & red sleeve for other retailers â standard CD will then be purple).\"

ArthurSpectator… the other side of the ocean, right?
Glad to see you are still OK, manilla!
The funny thing is, I played a CD of the US-based band A Death Cinematic, and when I looked at the back of the cardsleeve, it says YOU HAVE BEEN MARKED FOR THE APOCALYPSE. I couldn’t help emailing this funny anecdote about \"this silly, religious grandpa\" and me being marked, to the artist, and this is what he replied.
\"what is terrifying about that silly grandpa is not that he is correct but that he has money and influence over a lot of people and his so called predictions only stir up panic. when people panic they do stupid and desperate things which seemingly fulfill his predictions which in turn validates his skewed and baseless fear mongering. it is a horrible and self fulfilling cycle which i turn has the potential to cause that which he predicts. there seems to be more and more of that rhetoric. we had a taste of it when y2k was about to happen and now its 2012. i fear that misinformed people will be our demise, not any type of external cause. just some thoughts.\"
I rest my case, I fully agree. And I dance to Apocamix and Muse again.
ArthurSpectatorThere’s tons more on youtube…

ArthurSpectatorYup. I wished such pics were less blurry so I could read all of the track titles. Bleh.
ArthurSpectatorif you can rip a song or two, three from that german promo once it arrives, i wouldn’t mind confirming where it comes from.[/quote:h6a50nux]
OK, cool.
ArthurSpectatorBram, would it be helpful if I rip some M2 tracks from any release that you want to listen to, and compare? I’m hoping to receive that German thingy within a week, so I can include that also. Just make a list of song(s) from specific releases and I will be happy to create the FLAC files.
ArthurSpectatoranother shitty fake. these sellers are retarded.[/quote:2kkgrvv1]
I reported this seller to eBay. I hate this shit.
ArthurSpectatorNot yours kylie, yours looks real to me.
I meant the first post, we posted our reply to that at exactly the same moment!
ArthurSpectatorYeah, exactly. I’m not into that autographed stuff either, though I understand very well that it is cool to have a somewhat personalized item from a band.
That drumhead is fake as shit, even I could tell…
ArthurSpectatoris this one of the cds the band handed out to fans during their tour in europe?[/quote:1oebce6i]
Hmmm… Never heard about this, have you ever seen such a copy?
ArthurSpectatorDamn, Sven, is there ANYTHING about Smashing Pumpkins that you DON’T know!?
ArthurSpectatorWell, the Virgin letter speaks of a \"CD-Master\" given to them at the Munich concert (that was 2000/09/24), and the Machina II vinyl was released on 2000/09/05. So I found the vinyl rip story trustworthy, though funny… Why would Billy want a vinyl rip back of his own release, while he can order to urgently send a proper master from the US if he wants to listen to it, or give it away on the road? Trustworthy, when it was a rather spontaneous action in Munich and the only thing to give away was the cd-r of his friend (Eric Agnew, I understand now). But, when it is indeed a CD-Master as a source to this promo, it might be interesting to check it out anyway. Let’s see, I’ll keep you informed.
ArthurSpectatorWhat I know of this M2 promo, is described already on SPfreaks. I received some (rather small) pics of it years ago and uploaded them in the collection. Check this, it contains the pic I showed here.
http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … S&item=553
I discussed this thingy with a few friends years ago, and what I heard was that it contains/might contain the very first vinyl rip that was slightly too fast. An American friend of Billy (the initial vinyl ripper maybe? I don’t know) traveled with the band on their Europe tour (or followed soon after during the tour), and he was posessing this vinyl rip on a cd-r, or something like that. He gave that vinyl rip cd-r to Billy, who gave it to Virgin Schallplatten (or a copy of it). Virgin then made a little promo out of it for a few people (see letter). And I will hopefully soon receive one of those promos…
(I’m not sure why Sven thinks it will never hit the market again, well, at least NOT MY COPY, but there will be a few more copies around I guess. Sven? No?)
I will scan it to improve the pics on SPfreaks of course, and will let you guys know what version of the M2 release is on the promo (presuming I can figure that out
). We can hope it is another, unknown version, but I don’t think so. And I’m not even sure if I remember this story described above properly, so anyone who can correct/finetune it is happily invited to do so.
ArthurSpectatorI just grabbed my #6 item, it would/should have been on #5 since I know that the original Mashed Potatoes is an impossible-to-find collectors item:
ArthurSpectatorJust grabbed this extremely rare beauty from the market.
ArthurSpectator4.500 pink and grey…
3.000 blackrunning out of pink they switched.[/quote:277att1u]
Is that "somewhat confirmed" info, that the initial pressing (first pressing) was all pink, and the second pressing is black? Running out of black is impossible, so it truly makes sense, to put it like this!
ArthurSpectatorYeah, great info. I thought Sliver.it did a good job already, but here is a pretty thorough site to add to that. Thanks Sven, for the link! Very inspiring…
ArthurSpectatorThis is what Pette says on his website about Tristessa pink & black. What to believe? Should I correct pink to 4,500 and black to 3,000 (or maybe better: 2,500 and set 500 to grey?)?
\"The only Sub Pop release by Smashing Pumpkins. All had foldover paper sleeves with Singles Club forms attached. There were a lot of these pressed – I have read 4500 on pink marble vinyl and 3000 on black vinyl. Or so I had been led to believe. Sub Pop says there were 2500 pink ones. I feel like this can’t possibly be correct because there are so many on the market. The black ones are definitely more scarce, and the market actually reflects this.\"
ArthurSpectatorToo bad we can’t find the original pressing invoice for the 7", that’d probably clear this up immediately.[/quote:3hp8dcvi]
Yeah, exactly.I tried to figure out the pressing numbers for each of the 3 colors of Tristessa 7" vinyl (which could have been clear figures if that pressing invoice would be known) and I still have a bad feeling about it. It’s full of guesses and lucky shots. This is what I mean:
7,500 total pressing: guess
2,500 pink pressing: confirmed by Sub Pop
200-300 grey pressing: guess
4,800 black pressing: calculated from 2 guesses and 1 confirmI have no idea if I make sense here, but I think the grey pressing will exceed the number of 200-300 pressed by far. I’m more thinking of 1,000 – 1,500 (same as I Am One vinyl). My guts feeling says that the grey pressing for Tristessa is just as much on the market as the I Am One 7". I can not really proof that, so I might be completely wrong here. Shoot this to pieces, if you like.
But also, when I compare the Tristessa grey vinyl with another rarity like La Saga Racontee CD (approx. 125 pressed) then I see the grey pressing for Tristessa around 10-15 times more on the market. So both ways I reach a number of 1,000 – 1,500 pressed for Tristessa grey vinyl. No?
ArthurSpectatorWe published an article about the Tristessa vinyl single frontpage just now, focusing on the grey vinyl version. With many thanks to Pette Discographies for the interview and Derek for writing the article & creating the great artwork to go with it.
The texts on the 3 different uploads of Tristessa have been changed accordingly, I hope you vinyl collecting guys can agree on the changes?
