I also have a few like that, smudged ink too. That said you can see some ring wear and other stuff going on here too.

Crazy. Many congratulations. I’m looking forward to seeing that cassette.

Another possible explanation for the WLPs is that the records were pressed up very close to the release date. In that case they could grab the first few off the production run and send them out to whoever needed them, i.e. reviewers, radio promotion etc. By that time perhaps the sleeves and labels weren’t ready so they were sent out in company sleeves. That gives a week or two for the reviewers etc before the discs hit the shelves. For your explanation of copyright / radio why not put them in the correct sleeve even if they are white labels? BTW I’m pretty sure that all of these would have come with press releases so it wouldn’t have been hard to work out what was on each disc. I’ve found a few of them with a press release inside the sleeve.

Thanks for the great posts Sven, interesting reading as always.

    My possible explanations:
    1) someone cobbled it together from 3 separate releases
    2) the case broke and someone put a set that was already fr/nl into a random case they had lying around that was made in the UK
or 3) the pieces were made separately wherever it was cheapest, France for the discs, Holland for the inserts then it was assembled in the UK hence the made in the UK sticker.

    Couldn’t tell you which though…

I’d agree that peel sessions seems to be the most common. I have a feeling the pressings of all the wlps were well in advance of 25. I’d guess around 100, and probably more given how often they show up but that’s only a guess. I’d say the best thing to do if you’re really interested is try keeping a tally of how many show up on ebay. That should give you a pretty good idea of relative scarcity. If you’re interested in what I’ve got I can post a list next week some time. I think statistically it’d be more representative to follow ebay though. I obviously have the common stuff but then I have stuff that is considerably rarer, so will manilla and a few others. Seeing that there are so many in people’s collections could make them seem common but I may have seen 20 peel sessions wlps to one of the rarer ones. Make sense?

Seems like he puts out about 2 books a year, he must be a busy bee. I was going to recommend a list of books I love but to avoid derailing the thread I’ll refrain. Perhaps I’ll try one by this dude some day, assuming there’s one or more in English that is.

    He is indeed insane ;)

I have much appreciation for the man. It’s been more years than I can remember since we started talking about this idea and he’s worked about 100 hours a week on it ever since. I also have to extend at least equal appreciation to Mr Redwolf who put in all the time without even a love of sp cds to keep him going.

I use a program called easycrop on OSX, it’s probably available for windows too. Download is free. It’s very easy to use.

I’m interested in them all too :)

I have a great fondness for cassettes so I’m looking forward to seeing those eventually. I’d most like to see the south american vinyl and the now that’s what I call… promo (probably British rather than U.S. btw).

Rocket was released in Australia as a 2 tracker (same tracks as on this acetate), same for other Australian cd singles like Siva and Bullet With Butterfly Wings.[/quote:25a0kjcs]

I know, I was talking about the UK SD single releases. All the 7"s were 2 track, all the cds were 3 track or more. As this is a UK promo and it’s 2 track it implies to me it’s 7" related.

I assume it means a copy to be kept by the label or band as a reference copy. I’d guess if you looked into a record labels archives they’d have a bunch of this kind of stuff.

I have some other chop em out stuff, can’t remember off the top of my head what though. I have a feeling it’s all cassettes… I’ll check when I get back to my collection.

I’m not sure about the text on that listing. Rocket WAS released as a single in the UK, it was just vinyl only. I don’t see anything to suggest this disc wasn’t just related to that rather than being for a cd single issue. Given the tracklistings of the other SD singles I’d expect a cd to have at least 3 tracks. 2 tracks suggests a 7\" related release to me.

I submitted a bunch of 7\" scans a couple of years ago but up to now haven’t done the other stuff (living away from the collection). I’m going home soon though and I’ll get the info and pics for everything I have that’s not listed or doesn’t have images. You go ahead with your copy of strange fruit though.

It’s a 3 cd compilation of stuff from other very special christmas albums from over the years. Same pumpkins track as on AVSC3.

That’s pretty cool. I’d probably have bid on it if I’d seen it.

Laser discs were a little like dvds only the size of an LP. An 8\" one is small. I don’t have a player. I do have some laserdiscs :/ They’re obsolete now.

Perhaps you could have sent Arthur a PM and seen who was willing to bid highest. That person puts in a bid for that amount. That way the other party won’t bump your bid up to his max and perhaps you’d get it cheaper. Either way you’d get if if your bid would be the highest anyway.

    Just an idea.

I think the price is just to showcase his records. I doubt he expects to sell them at that price but it gets people to click and then perhaps they use the ‘make an offer’ button to buy for a reasonable price or look at what else he has to offer and buy something else he has to sell. It got all of you talking about his records didn’t it? Seems to work…

any chance of pics of the vinyl? I’d love to see them, especially the south american promos.
