    Bram/Arthur/Anyone else

Here are some scans of the Grecian text on the vinyl sleeve. It doesn’t look like it says anything promotional, just via context, but can you make anything of it? Thanks!

    [/quote:25co0t4q]

    my Greek = virutally non-existant—

    still:

1 > the first scanned ‘banner’ seems to indicate:
    PROMOTIONAL / MANAGEMENT: — followed by a name —

2 > the second scanned ‘banner’ seems to indicate:
EXECUTIONER / PRODUCER / ‘COMPILER’ (or something to this extent): — followed by a name —

3 > on the sleeve it’s just address info as per: phone, telex and fax numbers…

    of course:
i stand corrected if there’s anyone proficient in modern Greek!!!—
    i’m not too far off, though: i guess… :)

    hope this helps!-

    Agreed…

Pity people who ‘forge’ even ‘standard’ releases and then sell these as ‘promos’!!!—

as for the standard commercial 3 track cd single EU release…

i would really NOT be surprised if this turned out to be a release of only like 1.000 copies or something…!

the cd single market in the EU has TOTALLY collapsed to the point of ‘non-existence’… at least: here in The Netherlands, that is and mind you!- during the MCIS-era, there we quite a few neat cd singles / EPs!!!—

    still-
it might ‘seem’ a little bit difficult NOW to track-
i would not be surprised to find a copy in a ‘sell-out’ bin here though!!!—

    yes—!!!

and: there MIGHT not have been any need for a test press for Rocket on peach vinyl…

    i.e.—

    – the Rocket 7" was released with the box in late 1994.
    – the Siamese Singles 4 x 7" was released in the box, around the very same time.

    so:

    – the pressing plates used to press the black 7" singles for the box—
    – for: Cherub Rock, Today and Disarm were ‘tested’ again on black wax—
    – for: Rocket: also: on black wax—
    – both the run for the Siamese Singles box set inclusion of Rocket—
    – and for the Rocket peach 7"—
    – were pressed using the same pressing plates—
    – which were tested in the same time-frame—
    – and which were used in the same time-frame—
    – i.e.: from pressing plates ‘tested’ via a ‘test-press’ on ONLY black wax for Rocket—

    therefore:

    – i highly suspect there was never any need for a test press on peach wax for Rocket—
    – and: there might just never have been one to start with—

    makes sense, right???

it was a coincidence. i can’t remember what it was exactly, but i was searching some small pumpkins related bit of info on google, and i ended up on a website with smashing pumpkins "easter eggs". this was one of them. so i started looking for "blood bitters" on google and ended up finding this one, and for sale, even.
if i’m not mistaken, this is the site i stumbled upon. the creator speaks spanish, or something. http://smashingpumpkins.pbworks.com/

it still hasn’t arrived though. i hope it will arrive soon.
the link to where i found it, with huge scans of the almanac: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?li … d=23752134

here’s a blog post by someone who did some research about burdock blood bitters, because he found a small and old bottle. it’s an interesting read.
    http://dumpdiggers.blogspot.com/2007/06 … tters.html

and thanks for posting about this again, ’cause it made me search a bit deeper, and i found this nice postcard on ebay. this postcard is probably where the artwork comes from (and not the almanac). according to the "easter egg" website, you can still read "burdock blood bitters" in the corner of paper that’s turned over, on the bwbw artwork, if you focus on the blue dots. (i’ve checked this, but i don’t see it…)

i would not pay too much attention to case or plastic sleeve…

just imagine a disc is cut and sent out…
then somewhere in the US Virgin burns like 25 copies for across the world.
Virgin offices there burn their own in-house copies.
someone gets a plastic sleeved one, rips the sleeve, puts it in a case… tadah…

    plus: hence different discs…

as per DJ Tiesto: I don’t ‘exactly’ in any way like ‘care’ for his productions or, if you really insist: for his ‘music’…

    however…
Tijs, DJ Tiesto, coming from a province-town in The Netherlands, has popularised a style of dance or ‘trance’ that kinda seems to appeal to a lot of people.
he’s literally MASSIVE in his home country and across Europe and beyond too…

    therefore…
All respect to Tijs where respect is due and for, here, respect IS due!, as far as I am concerned!-

    now…
it seems Tijs has gained respect from some ‘indie-rockers’ too, according to this article:
    http://pitchfork.com/news/36120-sigur-r … sto-album/

    so-
    err-
i fear the worst to be honest-
(for example: refer to the remix album for Bloc Party’s last LP to notice not ALL dance-dudes know how to handle a ‘rock’-voice with some kind of ‘subtle’ touch, let alone: some respect for the original song…)

    then again…
this just goes to show Tijs / DJ Tiesto has made the grade not only in the dance-world, but way beyond and even into the so-called \"true\" indie-rock circles…

the album mentioned in the linked article is a DJ Tiesto-record, so no ‘butchering’ of already existing songs et al!-

    then again…
i wouldn’t be too surprised if some day a DJ Tiesto remix (authorized and all, this is) of a Pumpkins-song would pop up…
i mean: the Pumpkins and/or BC ok-d horrid remixes before!- a DJ Tiesto might be a totally different sound and genre- still: it just, all the same, could be quite a change for the better, or: somewhat better, or: at least, somewhat less horrid…

maybe THAT can count for someting?
maybe THAT’s some kind of ‘consolation’ of sorts, when it comes to the ‘remix-issue’???

in reply to: 2009 tour guessing? #31793

    mind you-

and not to spoil any excitement!-

these shows are currently presented and ‘billed’ as Billy Corgan with The Spirits in the Sky….etc etc etc…

as far as we ‘officially’ know as per now:
The Smashing Pumpkins are: BILLY CORGAN

    however:
these shows are NOT presented nor billed as:
    The Smashing Pumpkins….

    i’d say: ‘hold your horses’!!!-

to me this sounds and ‘reeks’ like a genuine chance for Billy to keep the ‘spirit’ of and from the ‘memorial’ show alive, plus: to ‘road-test’ some of his new and recent tunes’—

under the ‘Billy Corgan’ bill and moniker, he can do whatever he likes, want, whatever; for sure: maybe éven more so, with the ‘help’ of/from The Spirits in the Sky…

under the ‘The Smashing Pumpkins’ bill and moniker, all would be high-profile news, headlines, major scrutiny and all…

    i’d say we’re seeing a ‘ZWAN’-thingy here-
    – just start up and out small scale, intimate venues, maybe even kinda like- totally insanely small clubs or bars or whatever or last-minute gigs or open-mic stuff; just low-key…
    – here, there, anywhere; pop-up; pop-under…
    – get some buzz going, but nothing too big or crazy…
    – build upon that, let it grow, naturally…
    – test songs, structures, ideas, lyrics, themes; whatever on a live audience…
    – take note, evaluate it all; record the best; release those; as an EP; by what name?- that just HAS to be: The Smashing Pumpkins…
    – tadah!- keeping expectations low and still getting the feedback you need and want-
    – tadah!- maintaining the high-profile band-name and releasing when all is due!-

    crazy idea?

    just my two cents :)

in reply to: Siamese singles test pressings #38337

    Sven
    Spectator

for any vinyl release, for sure: for any major label vinyl release: there is a test-pressing before the full production pressing run starts.

    now:
    for the ‘Siamese Singles’ box-

somehow i’ve always assumed/presumed the masters/pressing plates that were used to press the initial (coloured) 7\"-s were used to press the black ones for the ‘Siamese Singles’ box set.

    even then:
of course: you’d want to check the pressed material, so there, for sure, were test pressings made for all four singles contained in the ‘Siamese Singles’ box set before the full run of 6.000 copies was churned out.

the box itself would have been manufactured elsewhere, most likely… that is: not at a standard vinyl pressing plant.
just like the mock-ups we’ve seen for TAFH it’s pretty likely there might have been some designs made and presented for examination by the band et al.
for some strange reason the OK-d version however bears a glaring typo which, apparently!, nobody noticed or corrected… or: was corrected per se by someone, but not carried out by the printer…

i’d say therefore there’s no point for any ‘box’ per se to exist with all four test-pressings other than someone buying either the ‘Rocket’ 7\" or the ‘Siamese Singles’ box set and fixing a ‘test-pressing’ \"COPY\" for a ‘major sale or auction’!!!-
i for me just don’t see any practical use for these for test-pressings to come fully packaged in a box of some sort—

    my guess:
    – for the separate singles, they made test-pressings on the designated and desired colour(ed) vinyl… that way both the pressing quality (sound-wise) and the vinyl colour and all could all in one go be checked…
    – for the box, they made new and separate test-pressings from the same master-pressing plates (i think; ‘Purr Snickety’ still sounds as horrible as on the clear vinyl for example) on black vinyl to be sure all was (still) ok-

    therefore I ask of you:

could it be: all BLACK test-pressings that we know of and have popped up and all… (the four SD-singles that is, of course!)
    are, in fact-
test-pressings for the ‘box’ set pressing(s) of these 7\"s???-
could it be: all COLOURED test-pressings are for the separate release 7\"s???-

to me only this trajectum would make ‘sense’-

what’s your point of view on this???
