ArthurSpectatorI met Davin and Brian in Brussels on Friday. We also had a good time.[/quote:11tpzsam]
Yeah, he said so! He highly appreciated that meeting too! He talked about your impressive cd collection, and the fact that you are a cool guy to hang out with.
ArthurSpectatorThat Phil Mckenna guy (I hope I spell his name right) is highly supported. I can see why, I have seen some of his vids in the past, and he is not only a very good drummer, he is very funny too. Thing is, 2 big egos in 1 band… it can go haywire very quickly. They have to learn to play with each other, for each other. If that can be realized, I think it would be awesome to see Phil taking the SP sticks. But I’m sure there is a lot of other (yet unknown) competition also.
But Jimmy shouldn’t have left in the first place, I’ll miss him…
ArthurSpectatorOr even a QOTSA fan who might have picked up the promo from the Arising! tour…[/quote:3j5i7guq]
I have that too.But some people here think it is not really worthwhile to upload on SPfreaks.com…
ArthurSpectatorAll they really sing about is drinking, taking drugs, or having sex with women.[/quote:34liwtly]
I think I know 1 member here that must like this style of music: Pipoka. As this is exactly how she lives.

ArthurSpectatorAt the end of the day Conjecture reigns supreme, meaning that the value of an item is only what 1 person is willing to pay for it.[/quote:c4d9h6qa]
I fully agree Shawn. I’m trying not to slam any collectors, and if any think I’m doing that, then realize, I’m slamming myself at the same time. I’m a collector too, and there are items that I overpaid also in my collecting history. And yeah, you could be right about the history of those type of cds… as long as we don’t question its genuinity, I’m fine with whatever label we give it… It’s the same with "mispressings" or "one-off vinyl colors" sometimes also, as some people just like to mess around in the factory, take it home for personal fun use, and then later it reaches the collectors market. Sometimes even for good bucks. When you think of it, it’s crazy! But it’s how it works, I’m afraid.
ArthurSpectatorA little Pumpkins related, and because I’m a Pearl Jam early 1990’s fan, and because it was only 12 Euro:
ArthurSpectatorYour new SP treasure wasn’t bad either Arthur, although I know very little about these ultra-rare cds!
[/quote:ms82zgmy]
Let’s be honest, my heart jumps to my throat when I find such things, as they are almost 1-of-a-kind items, just a few of them are known to exist. And only when I saw that the artwork and the writing on the CD was exactly the same as the one shown on SPfreaks.com, I dared to buy it. Also, the extra sticker on the jewelcase just made my day… I know, I’m a freak…As I bought it:
ArthurSpectatorCorrect me if im wrong, im still a lil green since ive only collected for 1 year only, and there is a lot i dont know about.

It shows kiddo, it shows. My key sentences are: "Because this song [G.L.O.W.] has no official, commercial CD equivalence! So the only way to get it on CD format, is this promo!" So, what happens here, looks like the 1994 Earphoria promo effect: not extremely rare (1,000 pressed), still very VERY expensive (up to 300-400 dollar I remember), as it was the only way to hear the unreleased songs on it. On itself the G.L.O.W. promo might not be that rare, considering its pressing numbers, but the availability of the song on CD is pretty rare in itself, and adds to the CD promo value. I hope I made it a little more clear? Besides, it’s just my thoughts about it… time can proof I’m wrong…
ArthurSpectatorNice finds for a really fair price, Honeymade!
ArthurSpectatorThis is sooooo true.
A lot of my rarities didn’t come from eBay. But from record fairs, and making online \"business friends\" with owners of online shops, travelling people with some music interest, and sometimes \"random\" people that I light with the Pumpkins fire. It builds you a network of friends, and every now and then something will pop out. That’s how I got my La Saga + order form for a good price, for example. And there are many more examples!
ArthurSpectatorI have a different opinion on that G.L.O.W. promo cd. At first I thought it was overpriced with 50-75 dollar, now I started to think it’s a normal price. Because this song has no official, commercial CD equivalence! So the only way to get it on CD format, is this promo! That makes it VERY rare, all of a sudden! What adds to the price (maybe) is the expectation of \"the market\" that this could be the last CD single ever of the Smashing Pumpkins, and that from now on, we will only see other, downloadable, formats. This G.L.O.W. CD might end up being the last proper single (promo only) on this physical format, which adds to it’s rarity, and collector’s price. Makes sense?
ArthurSpectatorThere was a copy on eBay, it went for 150 dollars, so i guess its very rare.[/quote:2v1juzh9]
To me, it means that a collector is willing to pay (to) good bucks for a cd that is not even that rare. For a few dozens of bucks more he could have had the Tonight, Tonight BBC disc. Which is, compared to that "Pop Mix that-is-no-pop-mix-after-all", incredibly rare! So I would call that Pop Mix thing a little overpriced…
ArthurSpectatorTHe last one that hit eBay, how much did it go for. 200-300 dollars, can you remember that ?[/quote:2fnywllt]
Yeah, way over 200 if I’m right. It has never been different, it was always very expensive. After all, it is their first CD single.
ArthurSpectatorModern times torture (it’s already an old way of torture though): waterboarding. Funny thing is, first I thought it had something to do with surfing, but when it came in the news more often (as being a hobby of the American authorities to have their imprisoned terrorists speak out a confession), I realized it must be some serious shit.
Obama stopped it immediately when he became President, if I ‘m right.
ArthurSpectatorThat is maybe once in 2 years on eBay…
But hey, mayeb you’re lucky this year. I’ll have my fingers crossed for you mayo!
ArthurSpectatorYeah price is not too bad, they are indeed very rare (now). I bought them a little cheaper back then though, but over time they have become more expensive, makes sense…
Couldn’t help grabbing that Tonight, Tonight BBC Radio 1 Playlist Edit disc, as it is rare as fuck. Second time I see it for sale. A must have from my top 5 Smashing Pumpkins rarities! Thanks for giving the direction, mayonaise!

Please do. Rare Dutch recordings all over, and lots of acoustic stuffs!
ArthurSpectatorit would seem so, like it would come with the territory, i know they have to get tested regular (saw that on a csi once) but some stuff doesn’t show up for awhile, like aids, and what if you got some kind of std, ewwwwwwwwwwwww. those freak me out. always wear protection, all the time, always. even when you are not doing it.[/quote:2205yz3y]
As far as I know, people don’t get std from standing next to each other on a picture.Goodmorning Tion!
ArthurSpectatorRepost…
I think I bought my first SP boots some 10-11 years ago, it was in Amsterdam on the flea market. I bought a few in one grab, and if I remember well, The Singles + More and Pluggelectric were between them. The first one for that all black jewelcase (I thought it was rare) and it contains songs I never had heard of before. Pluggelectric obviously for the Dutch concerts in 1993 (VPRO Radio & Lowlands Paradise Festival). I still remember how excited I was to get a hold of these rarities, never seen before in shops or fairs! Played them like crazy of course, especially the live boot.
From the boots I learned that live songs are way more cooler then always the same studio version on the album. Also you could find songs on boots that were not even on any album! So, for a few years, I bought more boots. I have now a little collection of 40-45 Smashing Pumpkins bootlegs, amongst them EightyNine, The Greatest Day, Sound Of Turnips, From The Vault, Berlin Bullet, Slapheads Revenge, Machina Acoustic Demos, Sacred And Profane Tour Soundboard Compilation, Knock On Wood, Freedom, Rawk, Thank You For Participating, Daydream Kisses, SP & Moon Demo Tapes, Vast Oceans, Mellon Collie At The Max, Disconnect, Pumpkinland Demo Rough Mix (nov. 1994) and Adoration. There might be a few between them that are not on SPfreaks.com yet.
I’m not into collecting those bootlegs anymore. Only a while back, when I found that unknown recording of teh concert @ Paard, Den Haag, January 1992, of course I had no doubts buying another boot! But in general, it feels better to focus on the genuine releases. And I have collected most shows in MP3 now. But the bootlegs I have now, I still cherish! As they contain recordings in (most of the times) very good quality, and they stand for a period in my life, when I enjoyed listening to and discovering the early history of the Smashing Pumpkins, and how awesome the Pumpkins are when they play live!
(np: Pluggelectric. Shivers on my spine again…!)
ArthurSpectatorCongrats indeed! What is the number? Just curious…
