SvenSpectatorJust wondering… those professionally recorded live shows, are they all on cassettes? And not handed over to Billy in a digital way like DAT tapes or CD-Rs? My wild guess would be that cassettes were only used for the first 5-8 years (demo tapes, few commercial tapes, live tapes, and occasionally for rehearsal tapes and tapes for the fan community in later years also). Or were most/all live shows up to the last show in 2000 also recorded (only) on cassettes? Hard to believe… But I’m no real insider in that world, so I wouldn’t know, actually.[/quote:1d1p0efa]
check…
from Melkweg 95 i know for sure it was all ADAT multichannel recording for all shows. it’s a massive, really MASSIVE amount of hard discs somewhere in a vault…!!
i believe the SD-tour might have some selected shows on ADAT too. maybe for reference on tape.
prior it’s all tape.
in studio recordings such as jams are all on tape until around Adore when Bjorn comes along.
he burned the recordings to CDR for BC.with Flood and Moulder he used to drive around in his car following the MCIS recording sessions and listen to cassettes.
SvenSpectatori’m surprised they only sorted through 700 tapes.
i thought they started recording every show professionally since ’94/’95, so i was expecting the number of tapes, including demos etc., to be a bit higher.
but maybe i didn’t estimate the number of smashing pumpkins shows from ’95 until 2000 correctly, and 700 is indeed the number of tapes containing all the live recordings (including plenty of pre-mcis shows) plus whatever else is in the archives.[/quote:3pvty5zo]tapes right?
from 1996 (MCIS tour) all was recorded ADAT.so, this must be pre-MCIS and i guess some of the SD-tour was even ADAT.
i know TSP used tapes for studio demos and all. and for really early live recordings.
SvenSpectatormost likely real…
SvenSpectatortwo interesting ZWAN promo CDs:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … MEWNX%3AIT[/quote:20fphfb7]
I have both, still little suspicious about those two. Seller said that those are from Warner, but i’m still not 100% sure. Never heard that interview before though. Probably they are legit.. Would love to see some program which could determine date of burning.[/quote:20fphfb7]
Legit for sure, seen things like these around…
Never knew these were actually promo-ed out like this though, cool finds!
SvenSpectatorSo, I was wondering about something that is not clear on SP history.
On this website, there is a studio session on march 1988 containing 8 songs. I thought only 4 songs were recorded at this time, which were those that made it to the NEC demo.
Then in September 1988 you have another recording session. This time only two songs: There it Goes, and Under your spell. I am not sure if it contains real drums (Jimmy’s first recordings with SP), or is it a drum machine?
Please clarify people[/quote:2o9cldqr]early 88 (basically from late 87 even!) = the I Fall sessions > BC + JI + drum machine and/or Ron Roesing (who knows?), some tracks made it onto NEC, the rest of the Avalon set was recorded too according to BC, that’s why those songs are listed.
late 88 = There it Goes and Under Your Spell from the MP if I’m not mistaken; recorded with JC and most likely BC on bass on the recordings.the time frame here is conjecture and highly tentative and guess work as they recorded on and off as they went along…
late 88 as per JC being the band hence following the Metro show…10/05.
SvenSpectatormust have been around that time i found out or heard about it, yep.
SvenSpectatorI will chronicle it, whenever I go to the metro, hopefully sometime in the next few months. It’s a very cool find to see "My Eternity", "Bleed", "Screaming", "Armed to the Teeth" and who knows what else in its studio version. This might come from the 12 song recordings from 1988 with a drum machine.[/quote:1hpej9n6]
it does, i’ve seen but not heard the tape.
i know DA gave his Hope Tape to BC. i just wonder if DA didn’t keep a copy on cd. he must have.
there’s much more lovely stuff at Metro; including several awards, the M2, numerous demo tapes, et cetera…
enjoy!
SvenSpectatorAnd a backstage pass (signed), thanks to Daniel:
http://www.spfreaks.com/?page=COLLDETAILS&item=3339
It is signed by Jimmy, Billy and Lisa, right?[/quote:3e5bd1w7]
No, no. It’s Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin, only.[/quote:3e5bd1w7]
Indeed!!! Duh!!! Come on Arthur…

SvenSpectatorLull is – like i said – not that rare…
but, for an older single it’s a very nice one; the I Am One 12\" is very cool too…2010.12.11 at 1:05 am in reply to: Need help with Smashing Pumpkins vinyl record authenticity. #42520
SvenSpectatorI don’t know about authenticity of these, but I saw the Lull vinyl in a record store a couple of weeks ago, it was $NZ50 – so not sure how ‘rare’ it is.[/quote:3sbf6rud]
i’d say a couple of 1000s at most for the 12"…
back then, what would the label press for an EP???max. 4.000-5.000 and that’s stretching it, i’d say…
the rarity for me lies in the fact sometimes not that very truely rare items tend to not pop up in the market…
the Siamese Singles box, the PI+7" for example is totally always on ebay…
well- search and find your deal; bargain hunt!!!

SvenSpectatortotally agree with Amnesia—
however:
the SD LP signed does look pretty cool and amazing…
i’d say that would be the most amazing present!
(curious to know if this plays ok with the signatures on the vinyl itself)) but still… )
best of luck with the auctions and don’t forget to check around on the web, sometimes stuff turns up pretty cheap, i.e.: for a lot less than on ebay. sometimes though it’s the other way around: just make sure to wade your way across the web!!!)
SvenSpectatorindeed- cool stuff…
the set list is indeed, as far as i can tell, as NON-BC writing and comes very close to JC’s so i’d say it’s indeed JC’s set list.
cool cool cool!!!
SvenSpectatorthe owner just made sure to present all options
33 or 45 – just to make sure and include both speeds as the ‘correct’ one was not indicated.
reverse – as the ‘special’ version is basically just the standard version in reverse or so it seems….
SvenSpectatorthnx thnx thnx!!
SvenSpectatorexcitement apart; per se…
the songs do top the first EPs tracks, right?as for me…
I checked out the MP3s and didn’t get the first EP-box.
I checked out the MP3s and did get the second EP-box.yes, there was a level of true expectation and desire in this release for me.
(well: CWSymph— still not the Teargarden Theme-crap to me!)ever listened to BC and his thoughts on this project???
starting out in his early youth…
moving towards a decennium later, with EP2…
moving on and on and on…I don’t like the sound and tracks op EP1… ok…
from now on: I’m excited…nevermind EP1 > from now on… bring it on…
SvenSpectatorgot my copy tonight and love it…
it just looks and sounds great! they did a great job here and the songs are shaping up to a return to form in a nice way…
happy times, finally a TSP release I really like again…!

http://blog.hipstersunited.com/2010/11/ … ools-gold/
it’s just the standard track backward…
oh well…
SvenSpectatorcheers, much appreciated…
SvenSpectatordidn’t buy the first installment for lack of ‘great’ songs, can’t wait for this one though as it looks great and include some nice ones
SvenSpectatorThis is very legit label with very nice releases, so no worries…
SvenSpectatorso?
he can’t read it, but he tell us to buy (into) it????
i still don’t get it…
if Fercak is such a dear friend of BC’s, she’d provided him with a translation, right?
the first book by Fercak I found and read and it’s total rubbish and an utter literary disgrace.
i fear the worst for this one too….
and:
to be quite honest:
a very high profile publisher went along to do ‘Blinking with Fists’…
but that’s nary to the point of literary standards either…still:
BC wil be in Paris…
BC will read from the book…
BC will even perform some music there…so:
if you can:
please BE there!
and get us reviews and all…
above all:
and get us recordings!!!
SvenSpectatorI must say: as much as I dislike the artwork and the sonic material…
This is a WAY cool way of releasing…I mean:
From a true collector’s stand point like BC says: this is the realest of deals…OK- the material, I think at least to be quite honest, sucks….
But hey!
Way back when:
I didn’t know what the song ‘Siamese Dream’ sounded like.
And: there was THEN no other way to find out than to buy the 7\"…
http://www.spfc.org/songs-releases/song … ong_type=1
Which I did…This release was readily availabel in Holland then.
http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1111
Then believed to be only 2.000 or 5.000 copies….
I had like 14 of them all bought from one record store…
And sold them at the moment of course….Only:
And now…
Here’s the catch…‘Siamese Dream’ is quite a dreadful sonic piece…
Same goes for ‘Teargarden Theme’…So:
Collectors DO go wild and mad…But:
Do we as collectors keep in mind ANY sense of inherent musical value???With ‘SD’ the song that was the first time my eyes were opened wide!
>>>
Just a question to discuss, I hope:
Where’s the inherent musical value for you as collectors???
With this I mean this:
– Cherub Rock 7\"- a mono scrap demo as b-side
– Today 7\" – a very nice song as b-side
– Disarm 7\" – whatever sonic ramble as b-side
– Rocket 7\" – a great cover version as b-sideSo: shouldn’t values be accordingly?
Nope those aren’t, because of relative rarity and such…
I still find this very very curious in the collecting world…
It’s the same in the fine arts and all though…Still:
yesterday I bought a sculpture by Go Segawa @ Yvon Lambert Galerie in Paris…
no: it was’nt cheap or anything…
but: I bought it because it hit a massive emotional nerve with me…
now-
then and there: I was shown works by big name artists and the like…
the works just didn’t appeal to me….
name or no name…The sculpture I bought is nr. 5 from an edition of 50.
I LOVE IT!…
That’s why I bought it.Why would a record collector buy something he doesn’t LIKE to hear?
Or:
Why would a record collector buy something just because of the limited edition?I have this:
http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1117
I have the coloured one too, complete…
I can sell the other one.
And: I WILL…
Cause: why have and keep it?I’ve had several colours of the SD vinyls.
I’ve sold them all and only retained the best sounding one: black.
I rest assured the other ones are now in a collection where those are treasured and well loved.I’m still just wondered by the collecting world…
Even as I’m now venturing into fine and contemporary art per se….
It all seems to be about the limited edition and size and all…
And NOT about the content…
SvenSpectatorand not only in love, mind you; spilling quite some beans…!
SvenSpectator@Dazey: you’re very welcome!
This is a truly amazing live DVD….!!!!!
SvenSpectatorI just picked this up:
[url:3taphvg2]http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?page=COLLDETAILS&item=2871[/url:3taphvg2]
I hope it is as rare as our site says.[/quote:3taphvg2]
very impressive. i had never heard about this misprint.do you think it’s easy to fake/emulate this misprint if you have the normal 7"?
i personally don’t think it is, but i wonder what your opinion is.[/quote:3taphvg2]It’s incredibly easy to do. There’s a special tool to do it. Most jukeboxes run on 7"s with large holes like that so to play a normal 7" you have to stamp out the centre.[/quote:3taphvg2]
I’m with Thom here. It’s very easy to punch out the centre to make this.
I’m honestly quite curious to hear where the story from the pressing plant pressing numbers comes from.I’d say there’s nothing too special about this. Maybe just a curio…
