ArthurSpectatorUpdated:
Dozens and dozens of bootlegs have extra pics added, like 200-250 pics in total. They were send in recently by a friendly member from the UK. He will be dazed and confused checking things out again I’m sure. Did I say dazed? Anyway, we are getting closer and closer to 8,765 pics, as we are now on a stunning 8,762 pics on the SPfreaks Collection site!

ArthurSpectator(apparently this show is often listed as 1996-01-27…)[/quote:2931dmqb]
If I’m right, the festival was on the 26, the broadcast on tv was on 27. So lots of places (SPFC, Blamo, boots like Vast Oceans) note this gig as 27. Also funny, many places mistype the venue/city as (Praca) Apoteose, Rio De Janiero. It should be Praça Da Apoteose, Rio De Janeiro.
ArthurSpectatorI very much enjoyed Dredg. Thanks for sharing!

ArthurSpectatorWhale Wars is now on Discovery Channel NL, and I love that series! And not only for Bullet With Butterfly Wings, to be honest! There is even a Dutch guy in the crew of the ship! And boy oh boy, they do absolutely crazy things to stop the Japanese hunting and killing whales…
ArthurSpectatorYeah. I wonder when and where this was recorded, so we can check out the previous song, or the banter before this one. D’Arcy really looks agitated!
And I can’t recall Billy ever \"grunting\" in a performance of X.Y.U. like he does here. And also, rubbing his guitar on a speaker… Truly epic performance of X.Y.U. anyway, I thought I just had to share this with you guys.
ArthurSpectatori fear this only indicates that the band had very little to do with this compilation, and that the live tracks didn’t come from them either.[/quote:3ls7zhmz]
Makes sense, yes. There was 1 thing however, that I found very peculiar in the seller’s story, to say the least, that was: "and usually SO RUINED by DJs playing songs off of them on the air" and on the other hand: "but tight formats didn’t allow the broadcasting of unfamiliar album tracks and b-sides, therefore the disc went right into the station’s library."
ArthurSpectatorHehe, I’m glad nobody on here bid on it, so I got it not-so-expensive. When it is genuine, I think the price is even very fair. I just took the risk, as I didn’t find any real flaws in the eBay story. Didn’t put a high max bid on it, and was lucky so far. Bad luck when McClusky tells me it’s fake, though… But, furthermore:
a) Maybe the biggest, but still only 7 or 8 people work in that McClusky company… And the Chrysalis promos are like this too. Kinda crappy, but genuine. Chrysalis is way bigger.
b) I think it was released in 1996 or 1997, when everybody was still focusing on the success of Mellon Collie and its singles. I guess the tracks came from the band or from Virgin, so what can they do?
c) Makes a lot of sense to me, actually. When this McClusky company was very much appreciated at that time by band or label, they would allow them to use 1 or some very special tracks.
d) Agreed, but only partially. I never checked on other McClusky cds, so I have no opinion on that. But every year we collectors find new items, even in the vinyl category (December 2008, the 1990 German vinyl test pressing of the 12 inch single for Tristessa, for example)!
ArthurSpectatorI changed to the Surf Punk music section from my cd collection, inspired by Dick Dale above. np: Man… Or Astroman?

ArthurSpectatorI don’t think the live tracks will be anything special. I think they’ll be from recordings that are already out there, and maybe even sourced from bootlegs. I might be wrong of course. In that case this is indeed a very interesting compilation.
The confusion about the San Diego date is probably similar to the confusion on the bootleg "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Ga Ga Goo Goo".[/quote:3f7p5n24]
I’m hoping the live songs are sourced from the band directly, so maybe they have a different or even improved quality. And yeah, good point about that date thingy. Wouldn’t surprise me indeed, if they (McClusky) sourced them from the bootlegs out there… We’ll see. First of all I’m hoping (expecting actually) this cd to be genuine.
ArthurSpectatorLot’s of Stevie Ray Vaughan today. Especially this Shadows-inspired song, it makes me jump around & all so happy!

The Shadows did this in 1960 already. A real classic, I like to think that rock music started somewhere here…
(watch the cigarette at the end!

ArthurSpectatorTrue, that is a little expensive. Still it’s a really nice rarity, as it contains many unreleased songs. And all the b-sides on it make it a true gem also. But it’s the unreleased live tracks that makes it an awesome collectible for me. Funny anecdote: my max bid was 51 dollar, and the other bidder stopped at US$ 49,01… If he had put a few dollars more on it, I would have missed it! But luckily I didn’t!
I put a little research in it, and Cherub Rock & If You Want My Love (Chicago 1995/10/23) and all 3 San Diego tracks (1979, Today & Tonight, Tonight) have never been released officially or promotionally so far. I couldn’t find that exact date for San Diego though, for the moment I presume it’s the Soma venue in San Diego, where Smashing Pumpkins played those 3 songs on 1996, January 31. But I might be wrong.
I had never heard of Jeff McClusky & Associates so far, but they do exist. They are even based in Chicago! I have send them an email asking for more info about this and possible other Smashing Pumpkins releases. Keep you posted!
ArthurSpectatorI just picked this one up on eBay for 50.01 bucks, but there’s another one for Buy It Now US$ 199.99.
ArthurSpectatorThe other is the UK multicolour copy. the pics on the site are pretty bad. These are a bit better.[/quote:tm5vafdv]
Indeed, that pic on the site came from eil.com. Thom, could you send us separate pics of the multicolor vinyl, all sides? On a sidenote, maybe it’s time to re-arrange this upload in the right colors, in the order of appearance.
http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &item=1102
Or maybe better, give each color it’s own upload? I’ll leave the discussion to you guys, however, I will humbly follow…
ArthurSpectatorHowdy. And welcome, LiquidPeppermint!
ArthurSpectatorMcDonalds Magic Nursery dolls.

OMG!
Now I suddenly understand Iconoclasm, and book burnings… Some things just should NOT exist!
ArthurSpectatorCongrats mayonaise! Nice item indeed.
And that French guy is really having a huge yard sale, it seems.
ArthurSpectatorYes indeed. 10% of that price will do also.
ArthurSpectatorHehehe, cool topic! Seems like everybody collects not only Smashing Pumpkins lol! Same here, I collect funny antique artifacts (especially Asian!), Dutch clay pipes from the 1500 – 1800 era, Dutch unused stamps, and music wise: 16 Horsepower (US), Noir Desir (FR) and Reboelje (Frisian band).
When I was young I collected plastic Pink Panther figurines. Shannen and her brother even gave me 2 Pink Panther dolls a while back, 1 of them to stick to the car window. Pink Panther rulez! Somebody remembers the cartoon where Pink Panther buys an \"instant hole\" and it even got delivered in a box, and then he starts using it, by throwing it on the floor and then jumping in it to disappear? Fucking brilliant!
Also the movies with Peter Sellers are brilliant…
Inspector Clouseau enters a hotel lobby and spots a dog in the hallway. He asks the guy at the desk:
\"Doezz your dog bite?\"
\"No.\"Clouseau tries to cuddle the dog.
…Wraf! Wraf! Bite!…
\"Uhm, I thought your dog doezz not bite?\"
\"That is not my dog.\"
ArthurSpectatorDazey, god speed!
ArthurSpectatorRainbow[/quote:otwyjb3l]
Stargazer again?Looks like we have more Rainbow fans here, awesome!
ArthurSpectatorI gave it a good thought, but I’m afraid I have to stick to my tight budget these days. Something really evil happened to me a few weeks ago, and I need quite the sum of money next months, to have it solved again. Meanwhile I might only be able to grab a few cheap cds here and there…
Good luck selling it, JamesIha. Maybe you better keep it, if possible…
ArthurSpectatorworth alot? worth nothing? im not sure. it seems like there duplicates that were make for record people.
i think they’re cool.[/quote:2mdjq2kv]I think this is awesome and very rare stuff, some pumpkins. Some people here will definately be interested in a flac rip of these tapes. As far as I know, these are Virgin inhouse tapes of, in order of appearance, the rough mixes of Mellon Collie, the 1989 Moon cassette ( http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … S&item=506 ), and the 1993/06/29 Studio 105 Paris acoustic set ( http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?pa … &locid=317 ). It might be worth quite a few bucks I guess, but I’m not a cassette collector, so I don’t know. Nice stuff anyway!
Feel like giving us a hint what you paid for these beauties, some pumpkins?
ArthurSpectatorarthur, you were stand up comedian? how cool!
is there anything on youtube from you to watch?[/quote:6is3cor9]
Hehehe, no, unfortunately not… I only have a cassette with some silly rehearsal bullshit we recorded back then, I believe. Not sure though. Remember, this was halfway the 1980’s! I have tons of pics though, I might scan a few and publish them here OK?History: we formed a band/theatre group called "De Olijcke Nood" (The Happy Need) in highschool era with 4 guys, we wrote songs, plays, poetry, stand up comedy pieces with piano, keyboards, violin, guitar, backed by silly recordings on tape sometimes, and we performed several times live in school, theatres, bars… At the end of our short-lived career we even got paid to play. The biggest audience we ever had was (2 times!) 1,000 – 1,500 people. We also had our own posters with catchy texts that we would hang everywhere… Kinda multimedia spectacle thingy, hehehe! We split up after 2 years though, as some guys moved elsewhere to go to University etc. Good times & nice memories, let me tell you! (why are girls always so attracted to boys on stage? lol)

Always check http://www.splra.org/wiki/index.php?title=SPTours first, to see if the concert was even recorded and spread in the community. That concert you mentioned wasn’t, for example. -
