ArthurSpectatorIs it this guy? If so, awesome. System Of A Down is/was a great band, with several awesome songs (this happens to be my favourite: Chop Suey! Raaaahhhh!
). Ahem, excuse me…

ArthurSpectatorAnd Jane’s Addiction was already mentioned here maybe? Anyway, check this out!

ArthurSpectatorDark Star. Old band already (10 years ago, they never became really famous, and we never heard from them anymore…) but when I listened to their album just now, I still get shivers on my spine. And I have some cool promo cds of them also.
Anyway, here are Graceadelica and I Am The Sun (few of their best songs, to my humble opinion).

ArthurSpectatorChat, anyone?
ArthurSpectatorI’m quite sure that happened indeed.
ArthurSpectatorno there were big buff guys there, bringing me bbq, that was a nice day.[/quote:tmq5l53n]
Exactly, YOUR bbq was like that. blue’s memory is mushroom’ed today I guess.
ArthurSpectatorFrank Quinto actually replied and asked for my opinion. I just send him this email.
Hi Frank,
Of course I understand that FLAC and MP3 are the modern and most easy formats. So please go ahead and release the rarities like that to the masses. But my preferred format would be CD format and/or DVD/Blue Ray for video footage. It will contain artwork to enjoy, liner notes, rare pics to check out…
I’m not alone here. Pearl Jam is doing it ( https://www.pearljam.com/music/2008bootlegs \"Since the programâs inception, over 3.5 million bootlegs have been sold.\" so if these guys can do it, you can make this happen also in a profitable way) and if you want more examples… Jane’s Addiction is releasing this soon: http://www.janesaddiction.com/music/all … uriosities and doesn’t this just make you drool?
Guess I made my point. Thanks for listening Frank, keep up the good work.
Arthur
ArthurSpectatori bought a promo vhs with acoustic versions of two songs. i think disarm and cherub rock from this show: http://www.splra.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tsp1993-06-22[/quote:1nkcd81c]
Nice discovery!
ArthurSpectatorI just wish for physical release every now and then[/quote:2jjthdig]
Keep on wishing hard then. It will not happen, as you can read in Frank’s email. FLAC and MP3 only is what they are going to release. It sux big times!
ArthurSpectatorIndeed it is.
You going to bid Daniel ?[/quote:3vbq6fig]Oh, I’ll see in the ending hours/minutes how much the price will rise. The vinyl is really cool, the show (at Earls Court, London 1994) is totally mindblowing. A must-have for a Pink Floyd fanatic as me!
[/quote:3vbq6fig]
Absolutely understandable! But it is already around 200 US$ now, is that the value?
ArthurSpectatorThere is no mentioning of a physical release like CD, so I’m gone I’m afraid. The part \"Iâm also looking at including an extremely limited tangible item that would make it worthwhile to subscribe if you were a collector.\" is interesting though, as it might include an item that might be physical, but it’s not enough for me.
That means, I will not subscribe. I have just written that to Frank also. I’m VERY disappointed!
ArthurSpectatorTHE SMASHING PUMPKINS ARCHIVE NEWSLETTER #5
Hello SP World!
I hope everybody is doing well. Iâve been keeping busy combing through the archives, and setting up figures for the subscription service idea. Now itâs time to take all of our ideas and try to make them work in the real world. I have received a lot of responses about which formats people prefer. Iâm looking at both lossless files and regular MP3 files. Lossless files (like FLAC) are audio files that retain all of the original fidelity of the recording. MP3 is where the audio file is compressed, and you lose some of the fidelity in the recording. If you have an iPod or MP3 player, it is probably filled with either MP3 or M4A (Appleâs MP3 standard) files.
There are many audiophiles within the niche community that this project is geared to, and I know they prefer lossless files for this material. There is a concern about piracy. We live in a world where people rip and upload material without any regard to what theyâre doing. It is so common these days that it has turned the whole music business upside down. If we set up a subscription service, people share it with all of their friends, and it ends up on torrent sites, it would be hard to get additional people to sign up for it. We would need a certain number of subscribers to make this into a long-term project. When we start, it might be the case of the more subscribers we get, the more material we put out. Iâm also looking at including an extremely limited tangible item that would make it worthwhile to subscribe if you were a collector.
I mentioned in my latest blog about finding a show from â89 with \"I Am One, Part II\" opening the show. There are many shows that are in the archive that are unknown to the fan community. I know sites like SPFC.org do a great job at researching and gathering the tour history of the band. Theyâre not always correct though. Many of the early dates are missing set lists or venue names. Most of this information comes from bootlegs or show listings in old newspapers. I found another early show from â89 that we posted the set list for in the Tour section of SP.com. The archives donât just have a wealth of recordings; it contains a wealth of information too. I bet most of you didnât know that the band played \"Stars Fall In\" live in the early days. As we get more into pulling recordings for release, we might find songs that the band worked on for tours that were never played. If youâre interested in this kind of stuff, then the subscription-model would be right up your alley.
If you have any ideas on what would make this worthwhile to you, I would definitely be interested in what you think. If we include a tangible item, what would you want it to be? Iâm hoping that we can create a nice tight community for the archives, where there would be communication on both sides. It might be something where Iâll use your feedback on what to put out next in the subscription service. Thatâs the road I hope weâre heading to, but we need your help along the way.
Frank

Awesome! The VIR code reminded me of South Africa, but it says MADE IN USA on the cassette…Meanwhile, with some help, and I ended up being lucky… only paid 6.17 Euro including shipment for this French promo:

ArthurSpectatorsound really cool!!!
i do know John a bit…
he’s a guy with quite a "user’s manual" normally-
this is kinda surprising in a way to me
however- good luck!
if you need input or whatever on John or anything-
hit me up on MSN this week or gimme a call…John’s totally OK~ he’s awesome; just some do’s and don’t
That’s all![/quote:3ik3hzur]
I’m expecting his responses somewhere today or tomorrow, as he emailed me this weekend and said he would be at Melkweg again these days. Meanwhile I have been working on it a bit already, and… This interview is going to be awesome, mark my words!
ArthurSpectatorI was PM-ed by another SPfreaks member that was on the same thing, so I generously let him have it, not being a vinyl collector myself…
But it proofs that I’m not the only one looking outside (the box of) eBay! I was surprised! How the hell did he get to Manchester UK, of all places!
But I’m also on a Machina vinyl for 0.99 US dollar elsewhere (hint: Asia! and yes, the pics show it is genuine!), so…
ArthurSpectator#4 is quite possibly the best compilation ever. so many big stars like shaquille o’neal and david hasselhoff to name a few. i kinda want it, but its all yours arthur.[/quote:2aa82ngg]
Thanks some pumpkins, very generous of you.But in my opinion there are many more even better compilations, check for a list here!
ArthurSpectatordo the banners that culthero helped us with help?[/quote:9hqdg193]
Yes, absolutely! All those clicks from several posts on the SP.com Forum together, run into the few dozens already. But compared to the SP.com total of many thousands of visitors that come to our site via a link in a PMM article, it’s still a rather small number… But I’m sure that will change in the next analysis, since the SP.com forum just started…
ArthurSpectatorNumber 2 and 4 are mine. Mine!
Thanks Shawn!
ArthurSpectatorLittle update on who is linking us, and what causes the most traffic to our site. Status report over 07/01/08 till now.
#1 without any doubts: SP.com. With several SP news – and PMM articles about us, we jumped to the next level of daily traffic. The 2 most remarkable referring articles were, the one that manillascissor wrote about the new feature called \"My Collection\" (which attracted several hundreds of visitors) but the absolute blockbuster was, of course, the art contest we did on here. Another thing that manilla initiated. It attracted almost 2,000 individual visitors…
#2 Netphoria. Needs no further introduction… We still need to move the serious collectors from their forum to here, I guess.
#3 HipstersUnited. They mention us every now and then in their blogs, and it helps big times.
#4 Wikipedia. More and more releases and songs contain links to SPfreaks.com, and it works. Dozens and dozens of people use them to check us out.
#5 ThePumpkins.net. I was a little surprised to see this name pop up in the Top 5, as I expected that the Forums of Blamo would be above the TP.net Forums. But fact is, we have several members from here that pay regular visits to TP.net, and probably they link back to us every now and then. Keep it up, people!
All in all, it means that we have grown from an average of 50-60 visitors per day 1 year ago to 100-125 visitors per day for the Collection website now. The new feature called My Collection was 1 of the biggest success factors of course, and the art contest also. The art contest contributed big times to the SPfreaks Forum visits. As a result, the posts on the forum have grown in numbers quite rapidly also, from 30 per day average a year ago, till 60 to150 (sometimes more!) posts per day now. The average posts per day since we started this forum in July 2007, recently jumped over the 40 figure, and is on 40.83 today.
ArthurSpectatorAnd this has stopped me from bidding on previous eBay auctions.[/quote:22i74wk8]
How many times have you seen it on eBay? Just curious, as I only have seen it once, the one from the extra upload…
ArthurSpectatorSince these are very hard to find to buy, and also quite expensive, I’m looking for a watermarked Zeitgeist or TheFutureEmbrace cd that I can borrow.[/quote:12g7scmh]
Ermm… Cool… last year, December the 19th, you wrote this in the "What is the latest Pumpkins related item you bought?" topic… WTF happened? It never arrived? Did I miss something?I recently got a watermarked Zeitgeist.
